So what was the negligence?

Was the doors maintenance schedule not adhered to?

Is having a automatic sliding door in and of itself negligence?

Christ, I've ran into a sliding door or two in my time. Each time it was my fault for not looking where I was going. I didn't know I had the option of not working again.

You've had a big, heavy glass sliding door move laterally against you when you weren't looking and strike you in the temple?

Or you've walked forward into one and left a grease spot from your forehead on the glass?

BIG difference.

The court awarded over $15M in punitive damages - that tells me they found a pattern of poor behavior on the company's part.

I don't know if any of these dollar amounts are "right", but I do know that that blow could have had much more long-lasting effects than most of you seem to be able to imagine.

Over 34 other instances of people this happened too and the cruise ship refused to fix the problem because they didn't want to spend $50 bucks fixing the problem.

And probably this poor guy was the unlucky one who got hit right in the wrong spot.

It's preposterous for the tough guys on here to act as if that door couldn't do significant damage. The way that guy got hit has almost nothing in common with just walking forward into a closed glass door.
