By your logic, let's not catch any criminals after the fact.

By your logic, let's all adorn ourselves with video cameras to prevent all future NO crime.

nobody has to "attack" nola

Well, petty attacks on Nola are all the rage on this board.

nola's population is doing well enough to attack nola's reputation

Is that why the city saw the second highest number of visitors in 2013?

quote:

why? b/c nola is in large part a shite hole.

Again, is that why so many people visit it??

In the French Quarter?

NO.

The last incident like this I can think of was Halloween 2011.

To bash the city because it makes them feel better about living in Podunk towns.

i don't want my money going to fund a lost city

Typical person that loves to point out problems and issues but has no intelligent solutions to bring to the table. You are going to avoid the city? Then you should avoid having opinions about it.

I blame the Democratic leadership. Future Detroit, imo.

there was another shooting in the FQ within the year i believe. it wasn't a mass shooting, iirc, but that's just a matter of chance

still, 2 mass shootings in a tourist area in 2.5 years is a pretty big deal

when nola people start to take these incidents seriously (along with all of the other violence that plagues their city), then i will start believing they truly want to do something about it. as long as y'all treat it as part of your culture, then you deserve the criticism.

anytime i hear the "people should know better than to be there" line or the "shouldn't be out that late" line or the "this is just an isolated incident" line, your city digs itself further down in my eyes. those aren't defenses of the act, but they are borderline indirect support of the violence as a whole and they have no place in a discussion about the terrible violence of your city

and no, not every major city is as violent as nola, nor does every major city have as many "places you should know not to be" as nola. hell even cities with violence problems like los angeles or chicago have easily-identified areas. nola doesn't. that's not an argument, and that is a counter-productive argument in the face of a serious problem

well a lot of that is because we know what the problem is, we can target and remove the problem, but then that isn't PC.

The thug class is being pushed out, gentrification is happening right now. Ten years it will be totally different down there.
Even Central City is getting an influx.

What exactly does "getting its shite together" mean? More cops? Better education? It is at least trying in those two aspects.

People in Nola shouldn't throw stones and be so arrogant about how great their city is.

Why isn't there much national press about this?

1. a black mass shooter doesn't fit the narrative IMO
2. people were shot in a bar where it's illegal to have a gun

There was another Bourbon street shooting a month or two ago. It's ridiculous and part of the reason I avoid the quarter like the plague at night. Nothing will change. Everyone is to scared to point fingers for fear of being called racist.

Yeah but you can't stop a lone gunman.
You could snap go to the street in your town right now and hit nine people with a gun.
Does that make YOUR town shitty?
Why is it that NOLA gets attacked for the stupidity of random citizens?
And it will be national news it just happened a few hours ago.

You hated the city long before any of these incidents.

You are biased,.
