But those cities have defined ghettos.

you see, i see not keeping the same ole same ole mentality as an opportunity to force these people out of the city...not an opportunity to possibly improve their shitty ghetto slightly in another area (destroying the area in the process)
there is not a human right to live in nola. these people need to get that (after Katrina it was insane)
I totally agree with you. I wish they wouldn't have rebuilt them at all. But we both know that there is no way that would happen. And that's not a New Orleans problem, no city would get away with eliminating occupied public housing. That's a political death wish. If you recall, even getting the current plan approved was mayhem, with protests and picketing. And they were giving them BETTER housing! It shows what kind of idiots these people are.

no, but it destroys neighborhoods and makes nola volatile by having no defined ghetto
if you can't get them out of your city, at least you can wrangle them into 1 or 2 easily defined areas to contain their bullshite
Again, I agree with you. And again, the change is happening. It's in progress. There are so many once shitty neighborhoods that are being completely turned around. Mid City is a great example. My sister bought a shotgun in Mid city right after Katrina in a pretty shitty neighborhood. Fast forward to today and it's one of the most sought after areas in New Orleans. This is happening all over the city, Uptown, the Marigny, the Bywater.
The shooting yesterday was terrible, and nobody should downplay it. But to use it as an opportunity to bash the city when so much good has happened over the last few years is shortsighted IMO.

Prayers sent.
(unless they live off of Lake Forrest then they probably live better than me)
Seriously though it's easy to forget that much of the east is actually nicer than we like to admit.
(My post was a joke, fwiw)
But I do think the Jail should be in the east and we should redevelop most of the ran down areas back there.
That neighborhood behind dowman scares the crap out of me. One way in and out, very sketchy.

I was out last night w some friends celebrating a bachelor party. We were in Bourbon Heat (I know...) when this happened. Literally went down right outside the door. The bouncers slammed the doors and kept us locked in for about an hour.

We lived further out than that lol. We lived off Michoud, where the Vietnamese live. Have a lot of stories about Race Nights and catching snakes in my yard lol

That and the CCW post where bad.
Though I'll admit here that I used to carry my .22 on Bourbon and I've never had a CCP.
I just would rather jail than dead. FWIW.

A lot of sane people are in the Quarter at 2:45 AM. The young woman from out of town who was shot was apparently with her friends singing at Cat's Meow prior to being shot in the face. She was with a group of her friends having fun and behaving.
Yeah, the last 2 years I lived 2 blocks from where the shooting occurred. I very well could've been out there at that time. I used to stumble home at all hours of the night alone.

Napoleon
The only problem is that almost all of the houses are fricked up, and every single one of them has the copper ripped out and shite everywhere. Was at one the other day and could see almost completely underneath the slab
Also, RTA does run out there

“Our number one priority is to keep New Orleans safe. These kinds of incidents will not go unanswered. NOPD was in the immediate vicinity at the time of the incident, and I am confident that between video evidence and eyewitness accounts, we will bring the perpetrators to justice. Our crime fighting efforts have brought murders in the city of New Orleans to a historic nearly 30-year low. But on days like today, the statistics don't matter because every life is precious - from the 9th Ward to the French Quarter. We will not rest until every corner of this city is safe.”

here's something else... what are they shooting for? did one recognize the one dealing drugs on the next block? the girl he wanted's baby daddy? did drinks get spilled or shoes stepped on? there has to be a reason and if not, it's even worse

Watch the video--the people who were shot all appear to be innocent bystanders who were just walking on Bourbon. The shooter apparently just went nuts and emptied his clip of 12 shots randomly.
