Errbody say that the Battle of Nawlins was worth nothing cause this Treaty ended that war.

I have always called "bullshite" on that and I'm right. I'll tell you why, all you Cool Dog History buffs.

If Great Britain had captured New Orleans in early 1815, there is NO WAY that they would simply pack up and sail away from that important strategic place. Sure, the rest of Louisiana could stay with the USA, but, New Orleans? Great Britain would have kept it. That's my opinion, dog. That's why the Battle of New Orleans was a very important battle.

“We fired our guns and the British kept a comin”

ETA: I like to think of the battle of NO as a going away present for the British

The Battle of New Orleans propelled the United States into the arena of world powers and officially made Great Britain our bitch. The Monroe Doctrine couldn’t have happened without it. The Treaty of Ghent is meaningless.

Without this battle, what does the University of Tennessee use as their mascot?

They were headed for Mobile after New Orleans. Also Packenham getting killed was tremendous as far as the British saying “nah frick this”

Just imagine those closed ranks of British Red Coat infantry stepping into that double grape shot blasting from the 36 pounder and 24 pounder naval cannons blasting out from behind those bales of cotton.

Turned your guys into ground meat!

But, yeah, you torched the White House when it was defended by unarmed civilian women and children. Ya'll are heroes!

GREAT point. They called him "Big Dog P-Ham" back in the London 'hoods.

I can't recall off the top of my head WRT what kind of commander PHam was -- if were the typical aggressive UK commander of the day, he would probably have kept going after capturing NOLA. We can surmise whether the UK would have returned Mobile, Al back to the USA, but, in my mind, the UK would NEVER have returned NOLA until sometime much later in the 19th Century. I do not believe that the UK would have kept New Orleans for more than some decades.

Fool! Try defending your capital instead running off tail betwixt your legs.

The British won the battle of the Age at Waterloo. You should be thanking us for saving Western Civilization from indignity of succumbing to the French. You Yanks were an afterthought.

The Prussians won at Waterloo, you rotter, Nappy had the Brits by the neck. You were bailed out by German-speaking barbarians and then YOU took all the credit, just like you take all the credit when your wife's Bull gives her a proper you-know-what whilst you watch, you English wanker.

AND stop using posh words like "succumbing" nobody frickin talks like that anymore.

What was left of the British forces did exactly that in the Battle of New Orleans, after being beaten by 1000 US Army soldiers and a militia, led by General Andrew Jackson

Sadly, 204 years later the infrastructure of New Orleans has hardly changed.
