The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning is a fully electric full-size pickup truck that competes with the Rivian R1T and...eventually...the Tesla Cybertruck. In this video, we drive an F-150 Lightning XLT trim to review its positives and negatives from a family perspective.

Looks very practice. The only problem is it is ~$40K too expensive at $83K for an XLT.

Pass... Far too many potential gremlins with all this new technology. I might look at them in 10 years

What are the odds this devolves into a religious debate between EV and ICE vehicles?

Nothing more practical for a family than an $83k truck that many mechanics won't work on.

They don't have factory warranties?

That is crazy.

What percentage of the population should be buying 80k vehicles? 10%?

Sheeet, no one should be. But everyone is.

Makes me sick thinking about my next purchase.

I've read that a good rule of thumb is half of your gross income as a maximum. So 160k income (not household) to buy a XLT truck

I just 'ordered' my first new car last week.

My only thought is $500 non-refundable is not a bad price to pay.

Don't get all these people driving 80k SUVs with the average income of South La. Everyone has their vice I guess.

I'd be very concerned about the Dealership being my sole option for a major repair. They could really hold you hostage when you have no other choice.

I'm not really anti-electric but I honestly don't know enough about them to consider purchasing one.

Same. I think my wife and I do pretty well. There's no way I'm paying 50k+ for a vehicle. Obviously a lot of middle class people are now though.

What are your options for warranty work outside of the dealership?

I don't think there are many options. A lot of mechanic shops around here at least won't touch these new fully electric vehicles.

It depends on what it is. Any mechanics could swap out an actuator, headlight, etc. but anything with the storage or drivetrain is probably going back to the dealer with the exception of a few very specialized shops.

I mean, it is under factory warranty. Why wouldn't it? ICE or electric.

People fabricating problems.

The TFB Gauntlet test on the lighting was pretty telling. It barely made it up the IKE with a 7500lb load before the batteries shite the bed.
