I bought a new 2018 Speed Queen washer on Saturday. It will be delivered on Wednesday. Now I’ve learned that the 2018 model has been redesigned so that the agitator is fixed to the drum, and does not rotate independently. Speed Queen has a video explaining the new wash action, and they claim it gets clothes “5% cleaner” than the old design. I have seen some negative reviews on this new model saying it does not clean nearly as well. Any of you own the new model? If so, does it do a good job?

That's unfortunate because I was probably going to replace my 14 yr old whirlpool set with SQ later this year. Please report back after you have used it some.

Exactly! Is that really worth retooling their factory? Already had a good reputation. Makes me think they jumped the shark.

I just bought the Maytag MHW5500FW and matching dryer for commercial purposes. Paid about $1500 for the pair. They have performed flawlessly. Couldn't be more pleased.

Once I got down to real clothes and a real test, it’s like, this fricking thing isn’t even washing, I don’t even know what to do,” said Pallas in a subsequent interview. “Honestly man, I was totally devastated by it. I didn’t publish that video without a heavy heart, you know what I mean? It was serious, I had to sleep on it. Am I really going to change my entire opinion on Speed Queen that I’ve had all my entire life?

SQ seems to have made a big mistake on this redesign. Good video from a dealer that got blacklisted by them after putting out videos about the problems with this new redesign. In my opinion, it looks like the new design doesn't agitate that well.

ETA I have a set from SQ, 21yrs old. Best ever. This new design seems like a big disappointment though.

thats nuts. everyone is finding out the new redesign is crap; why are they trying to censor people pointing this out?

Someone told me the other day that they heard bad things about SQ.

Should I conclude those bad things are only about the new models, or have people been having bad experiences with the old ones too?

It really is, and it sits on a pedestal both literally and figuratively

Why are corporations so stupid?

The answer is that lots of the smartest people are also the most full of doubt and therefore easy to ignore.

Especially when the idiots/incompetents like to hear themselves talk so much.

SQ seems to be doubling down on their stupidity. They have a cult following and built a good reputation via word of mouth raves and reviews.

Now they are attempting to censor bad reviews. Word is going to spread like wildfire on those same platforms.

We got one just before New Year's, but I don't really know if the agitator is fixed or not. I'll have to check tonight.

Honestly, I really liked the washer we had (older Maytag Neptune) and would've just repaired it, even considering the cost. But my husband didn't want to do that for various reasons, and it wasn't something I cared enough to argue over at the time. The things I don't like about the SQ are mainly related to design/features rather than performance, though. I can't say that I've felt like the clothes aren't as clean or anything like that.

Edit: N/m. Just from looking at the available models online, I'm thinking we got in right before the redesign.
