They used to not be, but there are deals out there. I'm not rich, I just fix them up and keep them as investments. It took me over 5 years to find the two 40 series (the ones that look like jeeps).

TRD R&D'd some turbo/supercharger options for the 100 a long time ago, and I was brimming with interest for this type of upgrade, but they wound up nixing the option because it would put the rest of the drivetrain at risk, IIRC.
My drivetrain has been bulletproof, until I had to do a tranny rebuild for $2,500 in year 14 of ownership.
But I have seen youtube videos of the Saudis and their highly modded Landcruisers and Lexus', turbo'd out, doing donuts and all that. I just laugh.
Would like to get a 2016 though.

Will do. My problem finding a 60 now is just dealing with rust. Nature of the beast but I already have a '74 bronco that made me fight the rust monster. I'd like to avoid as much of it as I can.
I'm not against an 80 either, but I really just want as simple a vehicle as I can stand to drive every day.

my husband and I live abroad, so it's easier to get one- bringing it back once we repatriate will be another story. We'll see. I'd LOVE to have a LR or Defender

My buddy put a supercharger in his 100 like 2 years ago and loved it. He sold it for a converted lefthand drive 70, though. He also had to go to 4 mechanics to get the supercharger right. lol
We still tease him about how much money he spent on getting it tuned.
My turbo was $10k. I bought it with the turbo already installed. No way I could drop $10k on a turbo.

What you report is way more than I would want to spend on any type of turbo option

Has to be like 24-25 years old to be imported. EPA and DOT won't let it in, unless you spend a ton on getting it approved. There is a place in Houston that used to offer that service. I'm not sure if they are still in business.

I looked into getting a '84 FJ-40 back in 2002 and it would have been like $6k to pass DOT and EPA regs. Sadly, it stayed in the country I found it in.

For street driving, they are cool as shite. But, offroading their whole life will make them fall apart. I had a friend buy a 110 new in 2004. It was falling apart in less than a year.

I have an 80 series that is a beast. It's full time 4wd and drinks gas but can climb anything, sticks to the road in snow and ice, and if it won't go over something it will go through it. Got it for $6k with 139k miles on it last year.

Cali should have some clean ones.
60's aren't comfortable and will beat the shite out of you, if you aren't used to them.
Alcan springs and bilstien shocks are the way to go. OME shocks will rattle your teeth, but are very strong.
