Right. And "she was entirely competent to make the decision to take her own life."
The first step in Holland's euthanasia law is "...the patient has made a voluntary and carefully considered request."
Some people, intentionally or not, are posting as if this patient was comatose and doctors just decided to put her out of her misery.

Your attempt to connect this to Nazi concentration camps is comical.
You poor, ignorant fool.
The holocaust didn't just start one day when the Germans decided to build camps and start exterminating entire populations of people. It was a gradual, step by step process. And the first step in that process was a merciful euthanasia program to humanely put down sick and disabled babies and children. The first victims of the holocaust weren't even Jews, they were sick German infants and toddlers that a three Doctor panel decided we're better off dead.

Mentally ill people making decisions about their physical well-being is not a very good method.
This person, while suffering from depression and other issues, was competent to make that decision.

Why do we take sharp objects away from mental patients in isolation?
This is done when people are NOT competent and have expressed a desire to harm themselves or someone else.

If they want to gouge their own eyes out, let 'em have at it.
This is a very different situation than what we are discussing. This is why you make decisions on an individual basis and not carte blanche with one size fits all.

Some people are acting like doctors in the Netherlands are strolling the hospital wings looking for patients to round up and euthanize. You're look really sick... we should kill you. You over there with the gaunt face, time to die!

I would need pics to determine if this was justified.

See, here's the difference. The PATIENT in this case decided that they wanted to die, not any doctors. No death panels involved. No kids involved. No one deciding what's best for another individual.

Think about it. If we make Doctor assisted suicide legal for everyone at anytime... No more "cry for help" fake suicides. It's about time we start keeping those guys honest.

All these compassionate libs sure do put a low estimate on the value of life.
Allow women to kill their children for convenience sake? Check.
Had a tough day and want to kill yourself?
Check.
Tried to kill someone and got busted?
Outrage.
Have one of them try to kill someone else and then get killed for it?
Burn this MF'er to the ground.

Except her family that has to mourn her senseless death.
I'd imagine her sex abuse was much worse for them to endure than this. At least you can ration that she has reached some sort of peace. Can't think of any positives from a rape.

I have no problem with this.
In her decision, was anybody harmed? If people chose not to continue life, why not let them be?

What does that even mean? I don't think it's wrong to commit suicide, and you can't prove me it is, cause it's an opinion.

And the ignorant conservatives continue tilting at windmills. Amirite?
What greater liberty is there than to decide your own fate?

You don't think it's possible for someone to endure a rape and completely recover, and lead a fulfilling life?
Holy.....this place absolute scares me shitless sometimes.

Did these patients get to decide for themselves?
Doctors Euthanize 650 Babies Under Assisted Suicide Law in the Netherlands
And this was from January 2015. How many more have been killed since? And before you attack the source, child euthanasia is official government policy in the Netherlands....
quote:
The law permits physicians to terminate the lives of newborn infants and to perform late-term abortion only on condition that they fulfil the following due care criteria:

So tell me again how this modern-day euthanasia program is any different than where the Nazis started the holocaust.
ETA: From the official Dutch website....
quote:
At least one other, independent physician must have examined the child and given a written opinion on compliance with the due care criteria listed above
At least the Nazis required three doctors to agree before killing some innocent child. The Dutch only require two.

No. You're not even particularly close to being right. We both know that won't slow you down in the slightest though.

I guess they know better than us, but was she really of sound mind to make this decision?

What? You think her death is better for her family than her being raped?
Not what I'm implying. I'm just saying having a loved one go through hell and being able to do nothing about it may be more emotionally destructive to the family than if a person goes out on their own terms. They are both horrible things.
quote:
You don't think it's possible for someone to endure a rape and completely recover, and lead a fulfilling life?
Of course it is. Many people do it. I'm not saying for rape victims to kill themselves, like you seem to think I'm saying. But some people are built differently than others and really can't recover from a truly traumatic experience.
She may have eventually recovered, I don't know. But you don't know either. Who are you to say if she made the right decision or not? All I'm saying is there's a silver lining that she may have found peace at the end.

Doctors Euthanize 650 Babies Under Assisted Suicide Law in the Netherlands
Interesting that the article leads with the "650 Babies" headline then details several adults who competently decided to end their lives, and not once went into any details about any of these babies.
And in the second link, one of the conditions is that the parents must give consent. So, still not the doctors deciding, only allowing.
It just made me appreciate the Netherlands even more.
