Better off dead then, amiright? They're no good to themselves and a burden on everyone else. Killing them is the merciful thing to do and society should help them on their way, right?

If that's the patient's wish... then yes.

I'm just saying she wasn't some young girl who had a sad day and decided she didn't want to live anymore. I wouldn't want to live with 15 years of the conditions they listed she had.

If someone wants to die, it should be their decision and their act alone. The power to decide or influence who lives and dies should not be held by anyone one else.

What shitty doctors these are. At 20 years old, you aren't fully psychologically mature yet.

It was her decision alone.
Did you even bother reading the article you posted? The doctors didn't choose death for her. She chose it, they consented after 15 YEARS of unsuccessful treatment.

Well considering it was most likely someone in her family who committed or at least enabled the abuse, who cares what they think.
The girl was sexually abused between the ages of 5-15, what a horrible tragedy.

Fixed it for you, and, I know you're trying to be sarcastic but what you wrote is exactly how it should be.

all well and good, but if they try suicide and frick it up, they're (likely) worse off then before. Why not give them the assistance to end life peacefully and effectively?

It is already legal in several states.

Okay, so suicidal people who blew their own face off with a 12 gauge shotgun were thinking straight? Has nothing to do with clinical depression caused chemical imbalances in the brain or other things that may be wrong....
Got it.

the end of the road would've come for this poor soul one way or another. It's a really really tough situation. I don't like assisted suicides, but I always think back to, How is that different from putting a pet down?
Who gets the final say and why? It's a question without an answer.

What's so bad about suicide? It's not the end of the world, and if it is, who cares? There's nothing you can do about it anyway. Get outta people's fricking business.

Good point, but the fact remains that there is free will in this world. And if someone chooses to do something that harms no one but themselves, we as a society should let them be.
Protest seat belt laws then.

I know from an emotional standpoint that sound good. But the idea of allowing doctors to decide someone should die, especially a mentally ill person, is a terrible mistake.
In some areas the term "slippery slope" does not apply. But in this area, it sure as hell does. The dangers of what an euthanasia program like this can morph into has been proven by history.
