Best guess is they had some sudden loss of propulsion or reduction in propulsion on one shaft.
Or they got sucked in by the hydrodynamics of the larger vessel and couldnt correct in time.
Also some sort of frickup on helm control system or by the helmsperson theyself and couldn't correct fast enough.
But who knows. Reduction or loss of power on one shaft seems most likely here.

When yoiu doing shite like this you under restricted maneuverability protocol so you got all everything online at max redundancy. Steering pumps, generators in parallel, throttle control ready to be taken over locally. The whole 9-yards.
