Check your withholding amount...I have to switch from 3 allowances to 1 or else I'll owe $2000 for 2018.

You're either:

A) A no-shite OT high roller (but not .1% high roller) Congrats!
B) Full of shite
C) Live in a state that subsidized their lavish social programs through the state tax write-off. Might want to move baw.
D) Have a bigger house than you can afford. Time to downsize baw.

Or D) Married filing jointly w/ 3 children

The elimination of the exemptions is offset by the doubled child tax credit, but that child tax credit isn't going to show up in a withholding table. For example, if you earned $80k/year, your federal tax withholding would go UP under the new tables. You won't see the benefit until you file. You could also adjust your allowances if your employer allows it.

Money Chimp calculator

Mess around with 2017 and 2018 for proof.

I'm not going to realize quite as fatter a paycheck as I would have. Because of the tax cuts, I am diverting some of the money I was deducting and putting into my traditional 401k to a new Roth 401k. I'll recognize the benefits in about 12 years though.

Just because you have kids doesn't mean you dicks should pay less and get back more.

It's a sham.

What kinda moron doesn't properly estimate their quarterly payments in a year that it is likely their tax owed will be lower than the year before?

OT ballers don't let the government hold their money if they don't have to.

I honesty don’t know why. I don’t get paid the same every check, my cpa cut me the check and the math didn’t come out the way I expected too. She said she used the new guidelines and I trust her but I need to figure out why it was less than I expected it to be.

I'm just pointing out that getting it right requires a lot more work from the employee than simply putting your filing status and allowances.

There will be a lot of people with 3 kids or more who see smaller paychecks and don't know why.
