Sad - but really hard to get hit by a train unless really high or drunk. WTF was he doing.

Did it say if he was driving or walking?
Also, there is a stop sign on each side of the track yet there are about 3 train accidents per year here. What does it take to have drivers look both ways at the stop signs before proceeding? Why can pedestrians not hear a train?

After 27 years in the rail industry I can tell you that the engineer did not feel the impact. Just too much mass and noise for him to notice. A train pulling 100 railcars could possibly weigh 15 to 25 million pounds depending on railcar type and if they were all loaded. I am sure he had the horn blowing if the incident occurred near a crossing or if he saw him. Engineer will still have to submit to a drug test and they will pull the event recorder to gather all data points. Some of the locomotives are equipped with cameras. Still a sad situation for all involved. Trains can move much faster than they appear. Not a dam thing that the engineer can do to avoid it.

In more civilized states where people commute every day on them, train accidents are very very very common. There will probably be a dozen days a year where I will have a coworker whose train gets canceled because the line gets turned into a crime scene.
I have a coworker whose son is a cop and the first day on the job was picking up pieces of a guy hit full speed. Said it took a couple of hours because they guy exploded.
