The Northern Aggression wasn't about the protection of Blacks in any way. It was strictly about stunting The South that had the economic engine in the form of cotton to bring it to it's knees.

Yeah.
We were pardoned but when we went to pay our property taxes, silver was unacceptable as payment. Had to be gold. No one fricking had gold. GD carpetbagging pos.

That doesn't matter. If they served in the U.S. Army before or after the Civil War, Confederate veterans were granted a pension from the U.S. government. There were several ex-Confederates, most prominent among them Joseph Wheeler, who served the United States with distinction in the Spanish-American War.

He was pretty much the only one. Since he was the last surviving soldier of the civil war when they enacted the pension sometime in the 50s.
And he was in the US military.

In the 1930s, the federal government began to give out pensions to Confederate veterans and their families. Not the 1950s. Before that...the vast majority of them had been getting pensions from their state governments.
The federal pension system for Union veterans had been in existence since 1862.

Andrew Johnson was a giant piece of shite. He set the south back worse than anything Lincoln (of whom I’m no fan of either) ever did.
