If you didn’t watch his news conference yesterday, he said if we didn’t do the quarantine measures, the death toll could have easily been between 1-1.5 million Americans.
Those were the numbers the experts gave him to start up the lockdown.
You must hate science!

you'd be right if he was the one coming up with these numbers.
Uhhh we've been beaten over the head for weeks by many on this board that anyone who cites those numbers is a doomcaster who should never be trusted again.

Way frickin extreme. It’s easy to say that now, and has set a precedent for future “pandemics”.

Sure, but it's coming. Best believe that. The vast majority of people complaining about the shutdowns WILL say it was the correct action when the response to covid is used as a debate topic in september and october.

Yes, but this is Donald Trump we’re talking about. He’s not exactly known for truth telling.

So are we to assume that you didn't accept your Trump check. Mighty nice of you.
If you did then you are just a normal, liberal hypocrite.

I think he has figured out the media's reaction.
If he says, "It's nothing." Then, they say, "OMG it's the next Spanish Flu."
If he says, "It's the next Spanish Flu." Then, they say, "Trump is such a racist and he's trying to scare people."
It's better to get them to move on from the actual crisis and focus on him. Then, we'll be back to normal
Yeah baw 4 D chess. Trump pwns the libs again!

Trump has obviously been compromised by the communists. Sad to see the GEOTUS fall from grace like this.

Personally, I don't think Trump believed that number either, but now he can say he saved millions of lives, much to the dismay of the CCP/Democrats/MSM.

As predicted, the smooth brains think trump destroyed the economy to own the media.

As someone said, we won't know one way or the other and it reminds me of the story of a guy in a parking lot playing his tuba really loud. Someone walks up to him and says "Say, why are you randomly out here in a parking lot playing your tuba?"
The tuba player says, "It's keeping the elephants away!"
The guy who asked says, "Elephants, I don't see any elephants, WTF?"
The tuba player replies, "Yep, my tuba is working great!"
That's how I see this situation. We won't know if the social distancing/lock down worked to thwart the spread...but it will be given the credit regardless for future use.

That number was going to happen, but let's be honest, Trump will pump that # up, just so he can take credit for us never reaching that number.
That's not necessarily a bash on Trump either, just about any politician would likely do the same thing.

This guy gets it.
Here's the issue the poor lefties have: Two months ago they were all convinced by their media that millions of dead bodies would line American roadways and it was going to be bc that Racist Trump didn't ban travel from China soon enough, or put together his racist committee to fight this soon enough.
Fast forward to now, not only are there not dead bodies everywhere like they hoped, but the federal response, as well as Trump's team of doctors developing testing, etc, from scratch, NOTHING they hoped for happened. So now, we move the goalposts in order to blame Trump for the minimal deaths we have.
Trump is not only spiking the football on his accomplishments (he and his team SHOULD), but now he is using their very own fear mongering on his behalf, and it pisses them off to no end.
Just wait until the economy rebounds. You think the little China whores are mad now? Ha. You haven't seen anything.

0% chance
If we did absolutely nothing, didnt make extra vents, didn’t shut everything down, I’d say absolute worst case scenario would have been around 200k

Just for kicks, I would say theoretically, that # could have happened. Basically, if thw government said nothing about social distancing, and the media didn't report on the virus any different than they would a normal flu season
If the word socisl distancing was never introduced, if we didnt stop shaking everyone's hands at work, hugging everyone at church, sporting leagues were never shut down, if churches werent shut down, funerals, weddings, schools, graduations, clubs, bars, etc. If not a single business was forced to shutdown, then theoretically, yes. We very well could have reached 1.5 million by the end of the year.
I mean, just look at how Mardi Gras turned New Orleans into a major hotbed. Or in smaller cases, what happened in Albany, Ga, or even there has been other small outbreaks traced to a single church service somewhere.
But alas there was never a chance of that happening, there does not exist an alternate reality where the U.S. treats this like a typical flu season while the rest of the outside world comes to a screeching halt.

There won't be a rebound according to many on this board. It's hilarious and sad.
I'm telling you, just wait till about september and most of these doom and gloomers regarding the economy will be pumping up the federal government's response to this. It will go from "We have permanently ruined our economy" to "President Trump made the right call" in no time.
