Why wouldn't you support the mentally ill?

This is where this mass-melt over weirdos self-owns. Either they're nuts, and you should show nothing but sympathy, or they're sane, in which case you all are nuts.

Once they admit these people are mentally ill I will support them. Until then they are all delusional

Support can mean different things. Support via sympathy and getting them mental health treatment is good, glorifying is not good but only encourages it.

I’ve seen research on these people’s brains, and they have a brain unlike people of their own biological gender. It’s not really something they can control.

Where does “melting about it on a message board” fall?

I'm Dylan's best friend, and I just wanted to say that they are a very happy and healthy person, physically and mentally. Thank you for everyone who is concerned about whether he is being abused or mistreated or deluded, but everything is perfectly fine here! I'm also transgender (though, I'm transitioning to male instead) and its been wonderful being around such an accepting and supportive community. Just to clear some things up--

Gender Dysphoria is a disconnect between the mental identity of a person and their physical being. It is considered a mental disorder yes, but with other mental disorders, it will never go away. So to help with the turmoil it causes, we transition to the opposite gender so we don't feel wrong in our own bodies. Gender Dysphoria can be developed at any age, from the time of birth to someone in their elderly years.

The... response witnessed here in this thread is a little sickening. You know why trans people have such a high tendency of depression and to commit suicide? Because of people who have little to no consideration for how their words may affect others. Transitioning hurts nobody.

Thank you for your concerns, and Dylan was crowned queen just last night actually too! It was a very nice ceremony.

Ok, here's where you lost me. So at 24 I can all of a sudden say I've believed all my life I am a man, but now all of a sudden, to quote Shania Twain, I feel like a woman. Nah, that's not how life works.

ETA: why did you say "they" first and then "he" after that?

I am curious, how do you feel about other mental disorders, such as anorexia? In that instance, for a parent, would you recommend the parent support the child's desire for a different body than they were born with by encouraging and allowing the child to continue to change their body by malnutrition and/or pharmaceuticals, even if the ways they are doing it can be unsafe, or would you advise the parent to encourage the child to be proud of the way their body currently is and help increase their self esteem in their own skin? It seems like it could be a slippery road to encourage a child to take extra hormones and undergo surgery to a fix a mental disorder which you stated would not go away in any instance.

You’re trying to have a rational conversation with a mental patient?

These people need to be in a cage

This sounds like it would be in a speech at the end of a South Park episode about what the boys have learned .

Because it's a mental disorder, quit trying to blame it on other people. People who are truly content and happy with who they are don't give a frick what other people say about them.

First time I heard of transgender I was 12ish, which is sad that today it's "normal" at earlier than that age for kids to know about sexual acts/dysfunction. Anywho...I heard about it b/c my older brother (16ish at the time) mgr at the movie theater was transitioning to be a female. it was doing it with it's "gf" to prove their love to each other, so the gf was becoming a man, and getting the dudes penis.

Yeah way to much to know at that age.

I would have not allowed my children to attend this spectacle frankly.

Society is f'd up that kids think this is normal, and parents are allowing it. Doctors shouldnt be allowed to do it either. A person can't drink alchol until 21, but can "become another sex" as a tween?? it's sad.
