Let him use his new catchphrase he just picked up
What clearly goes over his head is that one of us is defending free will, and it is not him

One of the scariest rooms we ever had was the Exorcist room, I hated to take it out because it was so popular and scary but it had been in for over 10 years (it had a great spinning bed illusion that made a great scare). No one ever said a word about it.
Currently we have the Hellevator, The Evil Dead: a movie literally about demonic possession (now our scariest area that also has been in for about 10 years), The Nun, A slaughterhouse full of body parts and serial killers based loosely off of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (based loosely off of the life of Ed Gein), The Voodoo Cemetery (Marie Laveau has raised the dead using Dark Magic of course), and our newest Area, Frankenstein's Castle (a story about a mad scientist who plays god and resurrects the dead). The castle btw, is probably the best looking set we have ever built and rivals any Hollywood movie in my opinion.
All of this is ok, but all of a sudden, a 15 min effects show featuring actors in the dark touching you with a feather duster has went over the line? LOL If I would have called it, "The Haunting of Mary Whitlock" (my second choice), none of this would have come about. It appears that out of every horror trope possible, the word Seance is triggering to a Catholic. Who knew? I definitely didn't. I never had an intention of causing people to be offended.
But, It comes down to this: The 13th Gate has been named THE top haunted attraction in the country more times than any other and is nationally known for a reason. We bring in literally thousands to people to the downtown area each October to assist the local economy, hire hundreds of cast and crew, and largely have a positive impact on the community since we opened on LSU campus in 1998. If you don't like it, don't go. If you hate haunted houses, hate Halloween, hate horror movies, it's not for you. Move along. But we aren't going anywhere because Halloween is an 11 Billion Dollar industry sitting right behind Christmas. Most people love a good scare and see Halloween and Haunted houses for what they are, Good Fun and entertainment.
The 13th Gate is a theatrical production company that has operated in Louisiana for over two decades, providing world-class immersive storytelling for guests during the Halloween season. Our “Séance” production is a scripted theatrical performance, created by professional writers, actors, and technicians. It is no more a real séance than a scene from The Exorcist or Hamlet is a real act of possession or murder.

I believe in God, but I don't believe in Hell. Do I need to be un-exorcised?
Just go convulse somewhere else pls, thx

I'd wager 13thGate will have a boon in business while this event is headlining. Teenage me would've busted hell wide open to attend, especially if my pastor had sent letters to my parents & grandparents.

Y'all do a good job of giving the rooms ample time, but also keeping things fresh and swapping them out.
I’m blind as a bat so my hardest room has always been the mirrors.
I was just bringing up the exorcist room last night when talking about the new outrage.

the word Seance is triggering to a Catholic.
We like exorcisms, not so much causing the need for them. I think I’ve been pretty clear on that.
But I’ve explained my stance enough. Probably gives me job security in some weird sense.

The risk is greater than what is conveyed in the “disclaimer”. That’s deceptive and that’s what’s bothering folks. It’s a lie.
So you believe that seances are real, even when put on by actors as theatrical performance? That real demons might actually be summoned and inhabit the bodies of the participants?
There is no risk of demons. They don't exist. The "disclaimer" is to let the fainter-hearted people know in advance that they might be overwhelmed by the emotional intensity of the experience. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Kind of like how some amusement park roller coasters have warnings targeted to people whose physical condition may not be able to handle the intensity of the roller coaster ride.

We have no idea what the real intentions of the actors are. It’s all fun and games until someone gets possessed.

The theatrical performance of anything scary is too much for me. If anyone gets possessed by a fake seance or killed by a fake murder I will read the news article though.

He just wanted to use the word conveyed in a sentence.

I’d like to think their real intentions are getting paid to put food on the table and build up a resume for other performative art acts that may be hiring in the future.

For what it costs, I better get possessed. Will report back if that happens.
