Cut and copied from a local parish church’s post on Facebook.

Dear parish family of St. _____

Last week a matter was brought to my attention that has to be addressed firmly and directly. A well known entertainment venue in Baton Rouge, 13th Gate, has recently begun offering its clients an experience that goes beyond fun and games. In addition to its usual haunted house options, 13th Gate now has an opportunity for customers to participate in a seance experience.

Surely there are some who will say “it’s all just pretend, what’s the harm?” It is not just a game, and there is great harm, and will be great harm for anyone who participates in this event. Whether a person believes in it or not, spiritual warfare is real. The enemy is real. When we open doors to the demonic, they don’t care if it was “just for fun.” Our approach to witchcraft as a “fun game” has been one of the greatest victories won by the kingdom of darkness in modern times - hiding in plain sight for unsuspecting victims. Widespread participation in this “experience” by the people of Baton Rouge will steadily put more and more souls under demonic influence.

Taken from 13th Gate’s own website concerning the experience:
“Séance is a live immersive experience that blurs the line between theater and terror. Ancient rituals, restless spirits, and unsettling phenomena await those brave enough to make contact. But be warned… not everything summoned wants to go back.

By entering, you consent to being part of a story where the veil between life and death may thin.”

13th Gate themselves is making it clear that entry into this experience will be taken as consent and participation in what is taking place.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches:

“2116 - All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to "unveil" the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.

2117 - All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one's service and have a supernatural power over others - even if this were for the sake of restoring their health - are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. Wearing charms is also reprehensible. Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it.”

As Catholics, we CANNOT participate in this in any way, nor endorse others to. Please help us to get the word out about this. I personally will be boycotting 13th Gate until this incredibly dangerous event is removed, and I want to invite _____ parish to join me. Our decisions matter, and they do have the power to shape the course of our Diocese’s story. Thank you and God bless you.

In Christ,
Fr. ______

Damn just post which priest posted this man. Pretty sure I can guess who it is anyway, not many BR area priests would otherwise be attending 13th gate

Doesn't seem rustled to me. I saw a similar post from another parish. They're just warning that 13th gate is doing something this year that goes beyond a haunted house and it crosses a line for Catholics. It's not like they're demanding it be shut down

Next up for cancellation:
Haunted houses and horror movies.

I don’t even like these things, but let people do what they want. If it’s a problem, it’s their problem.

He isn’t rustled he is warning his community that church forbids this activity.

Sure some people will view this as a game but you are messing with something we as a society don’t understand. Most of the rest of the world understands there is a spiritual element to our world, where as western civilization, despite most believing in a higher power, think there is nothing more than matter, pure materialism.

The priest is right to warn of this as you are opening a door with no understanding what is on the other side and even worse, most are doing this likely in a state of mortal sin. Does that mean you automatically become possessed of course not.

But you are opening the door to give Satan and other demonic spirits access into your life which can come in many forms.

I heard a priest one time use an example when someone used a ouija board just for “fun” that if you open your front door just for fun and someone is standing there with a knife, it doesn’t matter that you were just doing it for fun, the door is open and it is too late.

Doesn’t seem rustled at all. He’s educating his parishioners on what happens when you invite demonic spirits into your life

They believe what they want to believe and they are choosing not to participate or give their money to that business. Cool. America.

Get back to me when they advocate for violence or government intervention against the organization and I will get rustled.

Ah yes, the seance. That ancient ritual from the 1800s originating as a parlor game and run by charlatans to bilk money from desperate grieving people.

There are much realer bugaboos to worry about than some "ancient" gibberish with rubber masks.

Necronimicon? Made up.
Wiccan? Made up.

It's as powerful, mystical and magical as my own made up malarkey.

An Anti-Witch Spell

May your nose ring get infected,
And the crystals you've collected,
Not cure all your STDs,
May your cooter grow a cheese,

May, when your bald tires pop,
Only MAGA white men stop,
May you, in your frustration bask,
When no one wants to wear a mask,

May you be served smaller portions,
Never get to have abortions,
May you, when tough times are had,
Be forced to ask for help from dad,

May you have awful horoscopes
And no one sell you dankest dope,
May you be always unemployed,
Enjoy a thrombosed hemorrhoid!

A horrid pain, inside your rear,
My spell is powerful I fear!
But I'm afraid my awful curse,
Is only gonna to get much worse,

May you lack strength, to open jars,
Dead batteries in all your cars,
Two hours late to all your plans,
May no men join your OnlyFans!

Fell like this is the shepherd-y thing to do. Is your flock entertaining some demonic elements? Hey, maybe y'all sit this year out.

It’s from Father Joseph of St. Mark in Gonzales.

While I don’t believe attending a haunted house is wrong, seance, Ouija boards, tarot cards and the like, I believe are

When I was still Catholic the parish was all up in arms about a local yoga studio that had opened. Same vibes.

No thanks. Good on the priest for doing his job. Scripture is very clear on this issue.

Boycott =/= "Shut Down".

I think Catholics go way overboard which is one of the many reasons I support no religion.

However, if a Muslim group had the same type of reply, you and your ilk would not only cheer it on, but you would support them.

Asking your fellow catholics not to participate is not the same as censoring. The new puritans in society aren't the religious zealots any longer.

Nobody is seriously trying to talk to demons. The minimum wage actor running the seance is probably thinking about what pizza to order later while going through the script. The Haunted Mansion has a seance scene.

Now if people are actually trying to speak and worship the devil, that's a different story.
