LINK

I lose it at "Dix pack of sixie" every time!

I've been gone from LA for going on three years now and the only things that make me homesick are seeing pics of my friends at Tiger Stadium/The Dome and this damn song! I love it and it makes me miss Nawlins.

I know....music board. But this post was really me wondering if this song made others who've left LA homesick as it does with me.

Bennie Grunch and the Bunch sang The 12 Y'ats at Stuart Hall last week. Not sure how, or why, that happened!

I remember, as a kid, my sister and I laughing hysterically the first time we heard that part. We made our parents rewind the tape in the van to hear that over and over again.

As a band geek at Chalmette High we'd do a performance of this every year during our Christmas Concert. It was an honor to be picked to do it. Only seniors got to perform it and you were voted in by the rest of the band.

The order of votes was the # of the song (highest votes sang the "first day" and so on...). I was sixth my senior year.

We all had to do our own props and stuff too. I got ahold of a blank, white cardboard six pack box and got some IBC root beers (can't have real alcohol at school!), since their bottles so closely resemble beer bottles. Painted the box up to look just like a Dixie 6 pack and taped white paper over the root beer labels and drew/colored them to look like a Dixie label.

Throughout the song I was popping and drinking the rootbeers. Towards the end as I was getting "drunker" I'd start burping before and after I did my line. Then on the last verse, I did the "six pack uhhhhhhhhhhhhh" like in the song.

It was always a crowd pleaser when we did that.

It's not Christmas-time for me until I hear this, Ain't Dere No More, and Santa and His Reindeer Used to Live Right Here.

The 12 Yats and Harry Connick, Jr. singing "Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans"

After 7 years of being away, I moved back to Louisiana. Been back 12 years. You can take the girl (or guy) out of Louisiana, but you can't take Louisiana out of the girl.

Home Sweet Home.

They performed at the Pelicans game last Saturday. I was impressed with their live performance.
