It was more than 0.08" of snow...

8 December of 2017 was the greatest of Louisiana snow days because it snowed into the afternoon. It was fantastic.

The 2000 snowstorm during the bowl game in Shreveport was the greatest Louisiana snowstorm in the last 25 years.

I remember walking outside at about 4am to hit my pipe, everything was covered in snow, and it was so quiet.
I remember the quiet more than anything, because often you could hear tree branches breaking in the surrounding distance, was the only sound.
You dont realise how much noise insects, birds and everything else makes until its literally drowned out.
That was a good smoke experience.

December 11, 2008 was a great snow day but December 9, 2017 was even better. December 9th was the first time it stayed cold all day and kept snowing well into the afternoon. Usually in Louisiana it stops snowing early in the morning and warms up. We get that little dip to freezing right before sunrise and it stops after sunrise. But 2017 it kept snowing for a long time.

I have some grainy video of me outside in Thibodaux playing out in the snow age 4. Not 100% sure about the date, but think it was January 11, 1973.

It snowed hard in '73?
I never hard.
My Dad does have old video of a frozen Lake Des Allemands. Coming out the Bayou Boef/Chackbay side headed towards PB. Idk the date but it's old, think early 80s.

It was the most memorable snowfall in New Orleans since 2004 when snow fell on Christmas Day.
This one was incredible!
But BR got snow 2.5 times 2 years ago.

The Louisiana snow events set up in really narrow bands so your location means everything.
In 2008 the heaviest snow was south of Baton Rouge. In 2017 the heaviest snow was north of Baton Rouge.
Here's the 2017 totals.
These are the biggest snow events in Baton Rouge.
These are the totals through 2010.
It doesn't have anything for January 1, 2002 at the airport but it snowed a TON south of Baton Rouge that night. Narrow hit or miss bands. That was the night LSU beat Illinois in the Sugar Bowl.
It's really fascinating. Hopefully we get something this winter.

I remember I had been up all night studying for my heat and mass final in ChemE at 7:30AM. Driving to campus was mayhem cause it was snowing so hard and everyone’s engineering paper was getting soaked from the snow melting off of us. No one really knew how to handle it cause it never happened down here. My roommate from Lake Authur had literally never seen it snow before. We walked outside early that morning and he couldn’t get over the snow all over his car. It was funny cause it was like watching a child see it snow for the first time. Someone had made a snowman in the middle of the apartment complex and over the next day or two people kept adding stuff to it like beer cans and cigarettes.
This was a pretty big memory to me for a college experience filled with memories.

Damn! I know an old man that played in the ‘64 Sugar Bowl. We were talking the other day about his Ole Miss days and he was talking about how cold the Sugar Bowl was. I kind of thought he was full of shite. Guess not.
