Well first, that's Canadian society. They are notably much more liberal, and they're getting to the point of flying over the cuckoo's nest. That is not American society, although the vocal fringe liberals are easier to see than ever.

Relatively speaking, it hasn't been that long ago until they actually had laws on the books for this, while this is some sick shite, I don't think it is something we see more of.
There was a Slate article released a while back by a self-admitted pedophile who attempted to rationalize his sexual desires similar to how straight/gay people rationalize theirs. "I didn't choose to be attracted to children. So you can't judge me."
