I would be more worried about run-on sentences if I were you.

2 spaces. I took 4 or 5 typing classes as I grew up and they all called for 2 spaces after periods.

I've been slowly transitioning to one after 40+ years of typing.

Same here....except that I am 49.
Kinda hard to teach an old dog new tricks. I will use 2 spaces after the period until I'm 6 feet under.

Yeah, I learned 2 in high school, and 2 was standard APA in college.
I tried to get used to 1 when it became acceptable or even preferred in some manuals. But I still prefer 2 when I’m reading. It’s easier on the eyes no matter the font. Obviously doesn’t matter in a large Arial or something, but 2 generally looks better to me.

if you were using a typewriter you'd use 2 spaces, since there is no such thing anymore, there is only 1 space when using a computer.

I would take Microsoft's suggestions with a grain a salt. Microsoft tried to hijack the DOM standard in the first decade, along with CSS and now they're attacking human English?
If Microsoft says to use 1 space, then 2 is not enough, I'm going with 3, no frick that! I'm going to start using a tab character after sentence terminating characters.

2 spaces after a period. Like this.
I typed 10 spaces between these arrows:

I give my wife a week.

The answer is: don’t be such a douche. No one likes you. Those that act like they do are lying.
