1 or 2 spaces after a period?

When typing something "official" for work or for school, do y'all use 1 or 2 spaces after a period?
Followup question: are you over or under age of 40?
Sorry if you have already had this debate on the OT. But I recently had to update my version of Microsoft Word and it flags 2 spaces after a period as grammatically incorrect, unless you change the settings.
I had never heard of using 1 space so I did some research and apparent the World Wide web says it is an age thing: old farts like me grew up using typewriters where 2 spaces were needed for proper spaces, but for the younger generation who grew up in the age of proportionate fonts, 2 spaces are no longer needed.

1 is the current standard. I usually do two still out of habit.

I don't give a shite why it started or what's happened since
2 spaces looks cleaner than 1 space

I learned 2 but I’m 51 and now I am told that it’s one.

I always put a full return after each period.
I've never seen anyone else do that.
But I do it just to be safe.
Also helps when you're writing an essay.
And need it needs to be a certain length.
Like a certain number of pages.
