I’d you invested it smartly last year, it should now valued at $0.10 and worth about $0.07.

You know the people that made up Indigenous People's Day because they hate history? They made Friendsgiving because they hate family.

The overwhelming majority of people I know who go to Friendsgivings either do it as well as going to family Thanksgivings, or live far away from their family and it's their only reasonable alternative.

The exceptions are, to a person, people who were essentially disowned by their families for coming out as gay.

But sure, it's because people "hate family"...

Yet I’d bet a good chunk of those surveyed who will be skipping Thanksgiving will still go out on Black Friday and buy whatever the most useless must have crap is this year to keep up appearances.

50% of Americans would still vote for a Democrat.

Friendsgiving is when blue haired 20-somethings get together to eat vegan tofurkey because they hate their 'racist/capitalist/science denier' family.

And if it is, it’s a good thing right? Sort of like inflation and the recession.

College kids who can’t travel home for the holidays have been doing “Friendsgiving’s” for decades now.

Not skipping just may have Thanksgiving a day early because of other family work schedules. One of my favorite holidays.

I’m glad that some people who either cannot or would prefer not to spend time with family during holidays will nonetheless set aside time to share a meal with friends.

I’m not a fan of the term “friendsgiving”, though. I prefer Thanksgiving with friends. It’s important not to erode the “giving thanks” part of the celebration.

I suspect that those who coined the term “friendsgiving” knew that this was going to be an effect of the term. It’s consistent with their worldview.

While I certainly can't know for sure, I seriously doubt there was anything resembling that kind of intent in the naming. More likely, it was just some college kids thinking it sounded funny and clever a couple of decades ago, and it just stuck. "I'm doing friends Thanksgiving this year. Friendsgiving, amirite?"
