. I miss those moonlit walks through the Desire housing project back in the 80’s. Hanging out with my brothers and sisters sipping on a cold Colt 45. Seriously though, New Orleans has pretty much been a killing field since the early 90’s apart from a little reprieve after Katrina. No one seems to have the will to do anything to make it better.

Back in the day you could go to Bourbon Street or drive on I-10 without getting shot.

I had to go to Fischer if I wanted to pop a cap in dat arse.

Mia X’s post about this on Instagram (and the updates here) verify I was incorrect.

I'm sure Cantrell will spin this as something that happened because of permitless carry.

Other politicians are jumping on that bandwagon

Which isn't correct. Constitutional carry doesn't stop the police from acting in official manner. One is still required to disclose they are carrying a concealed firearm when approached by police. And a police officer, at his discretion, can disarm the carrier of the concealed weapon while conducting official business. Of course criminals don't care about the law, which is nothing new.

I don’t know much about the law. Can police just ask anyone without any other reason? I assume wouldn’t arrest or take away gun if no other crimes are being committed?

Well, this is how its written:

quote:

(2) A permittee armed with a handgun in accordance with this Section or a person carrying a weapon pursuant to R.S. 14:95(M) shall notify any police officer who approaches the permittee in an official manner or with an identified official purpose that he has a weapon on his person, submit to a pat down, and allow the officer to temporarily disarm him.

I'm no attorney, so I suppose it depends on how "identified official purpose" is defined by the law. But everyone knows that cops can really come up with any reason at any time to stop and question a citizen.

Entire streets in the CBD and Warehouse District get taken over late at night on off nights like Sundays. This is not permitted or city sanctioned activity. Other examples are the ones who ride the bikes with the LED lights, and the ones who do the peel outs. Sometimes I have to work late downtown and I have seen some of this. Where are the cops? This activity is clearly dangerous.
