It’s obvious Jameis was off on a lot of throws and was hesitant to run for an easy first down because he didn’t want to get hit. I can understand that with 4 fractures in your back but he’s not helping the team playing like that. I’d rather give him 3-4 weeks to heal up and let Dalton play. That’s what you signed a guy like him for in the first place.

Yeah his back is clearly affecting his play. It'd be one thing if they were looking for dominant performances, but they aren't. They just want a game manager in there at QB. Dalton can handle that.

Just judging from his long throws(which he is best at) something needs to be seriously looked at going into the next game.

Said it in another thread, if his back is really affecting his play (appears that way), the coaching staff has to make that call for him. we still have 11 more games to go before the bye week, that's a long arse season if dealing with back pains and limitations. Especially with a London game coming up in a few weeks

Respect to Jameis for trying to play through it, but he looked bad yesterday. Dalton is a capable QB, and this team can make a run with that defense as long as the offense doesn't lose the game with turnovers.

Winston was a 60% passer as a Saint heading into yesterday. It’s not like he’s been a pillar of accuracy in this offense. Those heaves downfield do not speak to a guy whose back is bothering him

If he's not hurt then his play needs to improve drastically, or he needs to take a seat.

And as bad as week 1's game was, he was still at 68% against Atl. So, is the 60% an indication of who he is now, or did his game improve and he had a physical set back due to his back?

Not defending him or his play, just asking the question. The reports pre-game were he had multiple fractures in his back, I imagine those are painful and could affect his game. If that's the case, he needs to sit and let Dalton managing the offense for a few games.

If he's not hurt and it was a really shitty game, he's the guy you need to ride with until the team/coach is willing to make a permanent replacement for the season

I agree. Winston hadn’t really looked good in 7 of 8 quarters so far this season. Start Dalton. If they don’t, and Winston lays another egg this week, then that should be good enough to bench him.

Does a bad back keep you from being able to see wide-open WRs and very rarely getting past your 2nd read? His issues weren't physical yesterday.

We pretending he had even halfway decent receivers to throw to leading into these last two games? All of his previous starts were with Smith, Harty, Callaway, and Humphrey.

Not like he's been great this season so far, but acting like we're multiple seasons in and can conclude he's awful is not fair.

I agree with that too. I say give him one more start and let’s see if anything changes. If not, time to make a change

I don't understand why people are so enamored with backup QBs. There's a reason they're the backup.

Andy Dalton isn't Chase Daniel or some unknown rookie. He's played and won at a high level in the league.

He was awful yesterday. He’s played well enough to win in the past games.

The accuracy is fine if you don’t turn the ball over. But if you’re completing 60% and throwing for 185 yards a game, there is no margin for error. You have to protect the ball, make timely throws and control the clock.

If his back is hurting him I can promise you coming from a pilot who flies international routes that the transatlantic flight to London won’t help his back one bit. Dalton is more than capable of keeping the ship afloat for a few games. Resting Jameis now for a couple weeks is the right thing to do. For those saying his back isn’t hurting him because he was still throwing deep balls aren’t looking at how badly some of those throws missed as well as a few out routes he badly missed too. But the one time it was obvious he was hurt was that 3rd and 4 when he could have walked for a 1st down and didn’t because he didn’t want to get hit.

I just don’t see how sitting Winston for a few weeks to heal would hurt us. Winston’s only added value here is the cannon and he showed us that without being healthy, that value is absent.
Dalton can manage a dink and dunk offense just fine with this defense.

You would have backlash from a large percentage of fans. And you would probably have backlash from some players. You know how it goes.

He missed everything inside and refused to scramble. I know he wants to fight through for his teammates, but he needs to rest up and get healthy for the back half of the season, especially if we have a Kamara suspension looming.
