Considering he was leftover from the previous staff?

Short answer is yes. Even if he is a good choice, a majority will still view it as a lazy hire.

He barely won one game against the damn Falcons and they put up almost 500 yards. Pump the brakes.

How about we let the season play out before we determine Rizzi's proper fate.

Rizzi picked that awful Australian punter over our Gillikan.

Guess some still didn't learn from the whole "OMG we're going to the superbowl!!" after week 2 saga.

Dude is very knowledgeable about commanding a room. If he does get the job, he needs to surround himself with good people. This is the path to success. I got so tired of the laid back bs with DA

Of maybe he was told that's who he was getting.

f course Rizzi then defended his punter, no sane coach would go out and trash a player in the media regardless of whether or not the player was his choice or not. True coaches go out and deflect attention from the player or players to themselves and highlight the positives and say "we gotta get better as coaches preparing these guys"

Depends on the circumstances. If we dive further into a rebuild, I have zero problem with Rizzi basically being our David Culley.

If there is legit interest from the top candidates, then no…unless he pulls off some crazy run.

Absolutely. Do a damn coaching search. I hate Louisiana so much sometimes . Every business operation is a clown show.

Rizzi was interviewed for the HC job after CSP left.

Probably as a formality because DA was always groomed to be the next HC, and was given glowing recommendations by CSP as his replacement. (Probably a final middle finger to the organization as it turns out)

Rizzi also interviewed the the Miami HC job prior to the Fins selecting Brian Floresas their HC.

To answer your question practically everyone on Saints Talk will call it a lazy hire but in reality Darren Rizzi is a qualified HC candidate with or without his 1-0 record with the Saints. Many people on the inside agree with this. Do I think the Saints will hire him, probably not due in large part to the fact that you mentioned, he's part of the current staff. However if something happens a Mickey is out of the GM roll I think his chances for at least an honest shot go up with a new GM.

Saints fans weren't the only ones saying that... I was on the Chiefs site and they going on about the Saints and how "should we be worried about them"... And the media was giving them big props.. I don't care those games were against bottom feeders.. The Saints were executing plays like a well oiled machine... Then the womp womp womp hit...

I like his energy also, but I don’t know if there any other teams out there wanting to hire him to lead them.

The Saints looked terrible in his first game and only won because the Falcons kicker missed 3 field goals

Hiring him full-time would be the biggest disaster in the NFL

Hire him and embrace the tank. Start working through these contracts and acquiring picks for the 2026 Draft and beyond. Trade back as much as possible. Give as many practice squad types opportunities, you might find a couple diamonds in the rough. Then in 2 years, you have a lot of cap space, a young team, and a ton of picks. That’s when you hire your guy and make a run.

He has to win 5 games or more. He doesn't have same team in September. He wins with this roster. He should be the coach.

Like the fire in the belly and the ability to clog a toilet.

Can he take a team to the next level?

He is a breath of fresh air from DA.

Management needs to search for other candidates and conduct a widespread search.

The team needs to conduct a full measure of due diligence before making any selection.

Saints have a 2-3 year rebuild. No coach worth anything will come here knowing what's in store. Keep Rizzi until we draft our QB of the future then hire a offensive HC

The Saints looked “horrible” against the Broncos and Chargers. They simply looked bad against Atlanta. That’s quite the improvement.

Bro it’s one game. One clogged toilet. Relax.
