This is the first I've heard of this.

The defensive line will have a new look, as Will Smith is no longer putting his hand in the dirt and shifts to stand-up outside linebacker.

That would be a disaster.

Maybe they'll try PRob at NT and Harper at DE.
They said they were going to try different things.

Even worse. At most, I could maybe see him backing up Lofton as a run stuffer, but the only rushing he should be doing is towards retirement.

We've seen him listed there and thought for sure it was a mistake. Apparently not. What a joke.

If that's the case, regardless of how much "veteran leadership" he brings, no way should he make the team.

Smith is wayyyy too slow to be a LB IMO

I think it was a mistake bringing him back, even under a restructure. This defense has been under performing for a while, and he's one of the poster children for it.

FWIW, I never got on the pff bandwagon...

Smith is too small to be a 3-4 DE, but I don't think he fits at OLB either.

Yeah, I wish we still had CG. He was big enough to play 3-4 DE

Smith is actually fat enough to play 3-4 DE now. I never had a doubt he could get up to weight.

Aside from a few givens

Lofton at MLB
Butler at one OLB spot
Jordan at one DE
Greer and Lewis starting CBs

every other position is up for grabs. Ryan has names on paper right now and will probably evaluate during training camp who goes where. No one, Fans, Media, Hell even the coaches are sure where everyone is going to play at this point. It's fun to speculate but we won't know much until training camp kicks off

Maybe this is the coaches way of pushing him to retirement because he's not gonna start on the DL at his natural position and standing him up at OLB will definitely make sure he never sees the field...Blessing in disguise guys
