It's been my contention that Carr has been Hamstrung his whole career with a poor Front Office and horrible defenses. He's been through 6 head coaches and 4 off. coordinators.
It's common knowledge that if you can't stop or slow down the opposition or take the ball back from them that you tend to start pushed back against your goal line in poor field position. Go back the previous 9 seasons and see just how poor of a defense they put on the field.
Avg. Total Def. rank #26. The average turnovers defensively every season in the NFL is 22. The Raiders have exceeded that number once in 9 seasons. They have only generated an avg. of 14.8 for the past 6 seasons. Let's compare that to the Saints who have not consistently been world beaters on defense themselves but had a Def. rank avg. in the past 9 seasons at #18 and defensively generated 22.6 turnovers per season. But don't take my word for it, this is an article from a couple of years ago that I think is still relevant.
NFL General Managers Sound Off on Raiders Derek Carr
LINK
Sports Illustrated’s Raider Maven reached out to three NFL management team members for their anonymous assessment of the Las Vegas Raiders Derek Carr.

HENDERSON, NV – The face of any NFL franchise is the quarterback. He is celebrated in good times and criticized in the down times. That’s the nature of the position.

Such is the plight of Derek Carr, who quarterbacked the Las Vegas Raiders into playoff contention the first half of the 2020 season with a 6-3 start only to see those hopes dissolve with a 2-5 finish.

Raider Maven has been a supporter of Derek Carr, so we reached out to multiple team management members and found three who agreed to share their thoughts anonymously about the Las Vegas quarterback.
“I have been in this business a long time,” the first NFL general manager said. “That is why I can understand the criticism thrown at Derek Carr -- but it doesn’t make it right. Derek Carr wins ball games, he doesn’t lose them for Jon (Gruden) and I don’t think there is any doubt he is a Top 10-caliber quarterback.”

Carr finished 10th in the NFL in passing this season with a career-best 101.4 efficiency rating. He passed for 4,103 yards with 27 touchdowns and only nine interceptions. He threw three touchdowns apiece against Kansas City and New Orleans this season in engineering upsets over both Super Bowl contenders.
“Derek is guilty of being a good quarterback on a team with a bad defense,” the second NFL general manager said. “Give him a decent defense and the Raiders are an entirely different team.”

But Carr doesn’t play defense – and that’s where the criticism should be focused on the Raiders.

Only seven teams allowed more yards than Las Vegas last season and only two allowed more points. Carr led an offense that finished 10th in the NFL in scoring with 434 points, an average of 27.1 points per game. But the Raiders were allowing 29.8 points per game.
“Let’s not pretend he has had great players surrounding him,” the third NFL general manager said. “I remember the talk of him being an MVP when he had players around him. He has those weapons on offense now, but that defense is not good.”

Rick Gosselin, who has covered the NFL for 49 years and has been a Hall of Fame voter based in Dallas for 25 years, compared Carr to another vastly-underrated NFL quarterback.
“I think Derek is the Phil Simms of his era,” Gosselin told Raider Maven. “He has all of the tools that made Phil a terrific quarterback, but he doesn’t have Phil’s defense.”

So Raider Maven asked the three general managers about the Carr-Simms comparison.

“Rick nailed it,” the first GM said. “I agree with that comparison. The biggest difference is that Bill (Parcells) built an elite defense around Phil and the Raiders haven’t.”
The second general manager took it a step further.

“I think Derek is a superior QB with his decision making than Phil…but without the defense,” he said. “Phil had the privilege of a defense that when he was able to take some risks, they could bail him out. Derek’s defense doesn’t bail him out at all, that is why he can’t take as many (chances) unless it is late in the game.”

It’s clear – you can’t assess Derek Carr without defense coming up in the conversation.
“I like comparing Derek to Phil,” the third GM said, “but having had a good view of Phil, I think Derek may be a better quarterback. Both guys were loved by their teammates and solid off the field. Neither guy cost their team's ball games, but Phil slept good at night because of that amazing defense.

“I’m not sure if I was Derek if I could sleep knowing I had to make no mistakes and over-perform in order to win.”
Football is a team game. While Derek Carr is a quality quarterback, respected by the men he competes against, he can’t be expected to have Phil Simms results with this defense.

Raider fans now clamoring for Deshaun Watson forget that in the same predicament as Carr in 2020 – good-not-great weapons around him on offense and a woeful defense – he managed to win only four games with the Texans last season.
The problem with the Raiders is defense, not quarterback. That needs to be the focal point this offseason for general manager Mike Mayock. Fix the defense and Carr will look even better taking the snaps for the Raiders.

I do not believe you can expect any QB or Offense to thrive if you put this kind of defensive product on the field year in year out.

Can't fit it all on this post but the next post echoes what I believe most of the fans and media believe is the truth. in the Raiders Organization

Josh McDaniels is scapegoating Derek Carr with Raiders

LINK
The Las Vegas Raiders are clearly gearing up to trade Derek Carr, but head coach Josh McDaniels should really be the one leaving town.

The Las Vegas Raiders can bench Derek Carr. They can trade Derek Carr this offseason.
But they aren’t solving the problem.

Instead, the problem is the man in Carr’s earpiece on Sundays. The man who a decade ago ran Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall out of Denver, leaving the Broncos in disgrace less than two seasons into his tenure.

The problem is Josh McDaniels, head coach of a 6-9 Raiders team now benching Carr presumably to make sure he’s healthy going into the offseason, therefore avoiding a trigger on future guaranteed money.

While Carr has struggled in his latest offensive system, he’s not the main culprit for a disappointing season in Las Vegas.

That would be McDaniels, who has seen his team blow a 20-0 lead to the Arizona Cardinals, lose a pair of 17-0 advantages against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs, fall after leading 16-3 lead in the final five minutes to the Baker Mayfield-led Los Angeles Rams, and lost at home to Jeff Saturday in his head-coaching debut.

In a related note, Saturday hasn’t won since. McDaniels is the only coach he’s beaten since being pulled out of an ESPN studio and onto the Colts sideline in the middle of the season.

The spin coming out of Las Vegas will be about Carr moving forward. You’ll hear well-placed leaks about why he’s the biggest issue, how he wasn’t absorbing the offense. You’ll hear about why the Raiders must move on from a soon-to-be 32-year-old quarterback, wanting to give McDaniels a long-term running mate.

But that’s all manufactured reality.

The truth is Carr just led the Raiders to a 10-7 record and a playoff berth in unfathomably tough conditions. Conditions which included head coach Jon Gruden resigning in disgrace, and top receiver Henry Ruggs III being released after he killed a woman in a drunk-driving automobile accident.

Less than a year ago, Carr was the gallant football hero who was the leader of a rudderless franchise. Now, he’s the scapegoat for a coach who hasn’t won anything when Tom Brady isn’t by his side.

Looking at his situation, it’s incredible Carr has enjoyed the level of success he’s achieved over the years.

In nine seasons with the Raiders, Carr has played for six head coaches. The rosters around him have varied from competent to contemptible. He’s dealt with rumors of a relocation and then, finally, a move before the 2020 season.

Through it all, Carr has been an unwavering pillar for a franchise hellbent on self-destruction. He made three Pro Bowls, carried the Raiders to a pair of playoff berths, and consistently took the tough questions when others should have.

Now, in a year where the defense has once more been horrific and the coaching has followed suit, it appears the Raiders’ final act with Derek Carr will be to blame and then trade him.
And soon enough, Las Vegas will. The Raiders are going to get offers — one NFL general manager felt a first-round pick attached to a mid-rounder would be an appropriate return — and deal Carr away. Carr should be thrilled, potentially landing on a team housing stability he’s never known.

As for the Raiders?

They’ll have McDaniels, a hole to fill at quarterback and nobody left to take the blame any longer.

It’ll be 7 head coaches within the next 6 months once we fire Dennis Allen. And then maybe we’re in a position to draft Drake Maye.

ETA: Actually it’ll still be 6 because Allen was one of the coaches already fired. So 6 head coaches within 7 stints.

But it’s the coaches not Carr, right?

Uh huh.

He will be pretty good and have really good games sometimes. He will also have some stinkers. He’s not a top qb but you can likely win a good bit with him.

I’d be more concerned with the defensive line, WRs staying healthy, O line improving and coaching staff.

Problem is they bitch about a blind link if you just post the link. If you post selected parts of an article your accused of cherry picking. You can't win for losing. I don't have a problem with anyone disagreeing with me as long as they are not disrespectful. TLDR is rude because they have the option of just flipping the page nobody's twisting their arm to read the post.

I think it really depends on your definition of working out.

I do think that Carr will put the Saints in the position to win the NFC South probably 2 out of 3 years. If longer then 3 out of 5.

That will mean 2-3 home playoff games facing a high wildcard team in all probability.

--------------------------------------------
Some people say any year you do not win the Super Bowl is a waste.

Maybe 1 win in those. Do I think that we will see an NFC Championship game or Super Bowl. Not without playing against a key injury.

Say the Saints beat Minnesota in a home playoff game and will face Philly in the next round and Hurts gets knocked out early against the Saints...

Offensive line health is so crucial as well. I feel like if things go the way they have the last 2 years, it'll be another disappointing season.

That's why I'm not as enthusiastic as others might be.

I wonder if it was O-line health that was the main reason that we saw a lot of backup QB's have to play last year league wide. Maybe just an anomaly

I said on here years ago, he was the qb to get when Brees retired. The most obtainable one anyway. He’s an ideal fit for what SP liked to run. I think he woukd have elevated his game much like he did with Brees. Remember Brees really wasn’t any better in SD than what Carr is now.

Sucks that we can’t find out now. So I’m not sure how good Carr will be with this coaching staff.
