Former Saint safety Rob Kelly. Last time I remember him on the field was the dikta years and him getting absolutely trucked. Hate to see this though

Things like This will probably cost the league big time in the future.
Bad thing is that 99% of them would not have chosen a different path and they know it.
I have said for the last 5 years is you own up and have every player sign a waiver saying they assume all the risk associated with playing.

The biggest thing I took away from this article was the New York Times' obsession with periods and abbreviations. I remember reading "L.S.U." back whenever and being like..ugh.
But yeah. It's sad. The league has a big problem on their hands.

quote:This is correct. They've known for years that they could be paralyzed on the field and they still chose to play. Dementia is not a greater deterrent.

I’ll bang my head against a wall for a year to sign a multi million dollar contract. Im tired of hearing this shite about complications post playing.

You can't compare paralysis and CTE. Paralysis is a black swan event that very rarely happens. I mean how many players total have been paralyzed on the field in the modern era, out of all the thousands who have played?
But scientists think that CTE and the dementia it causes is likely to happen to MOST of the guys who play the game at some point. Plus, when you leave the game, your risk of paralysis drops to zero. On the other hand, Players live the rest of their lives with the spectre of dementia.
I mean sure, these guys know the risks now and they accept them, so I don't feel guilty watching... well, not THAT guilty. But the prospects for the game long term are bleak.
EDIT: Just stumbled on this article which is a pretty good, I think, summary of where we are. LINK /
And again, I'm a football fan, I've been here posting for ten years.
