Why do fans treat mock draft experts like they are GMs?

Mock draft experts are paid to put names on a list and rank them. They aren’t held accountable. They can chalk it up to “this team had other needs”, etc

GMs are paid to make the right pick.

You all would be very surprised to see how much group think the mock drafting industry has.

Fans spend hours reading mocks and get to know players by name. Fans think since the same players go in the same range, that they must be the logical selections.

Fan then melt when the player they fell in love with (based on mock drafts) didn't get picked where they were told they would.

They both have basically the same job, just one has power to go with it. Do you think every GM is better than every analyst?

Its ridiculous.

Its also why you always see "Guys climbing up draft boards"

They aren't climbing up. The amateur draftniks are catching wind of what teams actually think.

The draft hoopla is pretty silly overall...Re-watching any draft from 5+ years ago will tell you that we learn nothing from actual draft night. The teams that do it well will probably hit on a player that they "reached for" while poor organizations will look like they drafted a bust when in reality, maybe the organization just sucks at utilizing talent.

The way I view mocks are as a general guide as to where people should go. When my team makes a pick, I give them the benefit of the doubt IF they are generally good at drafting players. I defer to their track record. Our team has a pretty good (but not amazing or anything) track record. So I trust they made a calculated pick and take a wait and see approach from there. If our track record sucked I would be more skeptical.

Other fans like to be true fanatics and let their emotions dictate how they feel before having any clue how a player will do. And that's fine. It's part of the luxury of being a fan. But I just don't see the point in taking that approach personally.

How is Mike Mayock and Chuckie’s roster doing in Vegas? I agree, mock drafters are more color analysts than GM’s. Moving up the board is similar to when a high school player gets another star after Bama offers him. It’s the analyst reacting to what teams are doing.

I’m excited about Turner and not missing a beat with Hendrickson gone. In the end however, we won’t know until he sees the field.

Keep in mind those "draft experts" have agents and coaches in their ears non-stop wanting to see guys rise and fall.

The best is, “I can’t believe we took this guy in round 1!”

He’s the 28th pick. Like if he goes in the second round at pick 33, it would be ok though

I never heard of him, he didn’t play at a P5!

I think the first round picks are not a place to just pick what you think you want without considering the price you are paying.

If you want Leatherwood (Raiders) or Turner (Saints) as pick you need to consider the following.

What is the likelihood of other teams drafting that player in the next 3-5 picks? If it is low or remote, consider trading down for more draft bullets.

I am not knocking the pick. I just think if they liked those guys in the first, they would love them in the 2nd.

Their “informed” decisions are based on draft experts who sometimes don’t know shite, and Adam Schefter tweets, most of which are deliberate misinformation designed to stir up interest in the draft broadcast.

You people have no clue what really goes on. You just latch on to the narrative you see on TV and webpages.

You hear NOTHING about this guy for months. Then he gets picked and all of the sudden everybody loves the guy and they say that it messes up a lot of draft plans because a bunch of teams wanted him in the next few picks. Is that coincidence?

Maybe scouts and teams weren’t hyping this guy to the “insiders,” at least for public knowledge, because they hoped he would fly under the radar and get to them? Is that possible?

Yes. I think that analysts are a bunch of dumbasses who are better at sounding smart and well-spoken than actually being smart. “NFL GM” is an absolute dream job for 99% of guys and the 32 GM’s on earth didn’t get there by pretending to be competent.

With Turner, we are learning that that liklihood was high.

Also, do you know if any teams offered anything to only move back a few spots?

But they all put up insane numbers at those schools.

Because NFL caliber players tend to dominate guys who will coach HS OL in a couple years.

Turner and Davenport are both physical freaks and don’t produce like that.

Trey Hendrickson had 23 sacks his last 2 years at FAU. That’s in the same conference as Turner.

This guy is physically insane looking.

Why wasn’t he buttfricking AAC tackles?

I really don't care what conference a player comes from, but this is starting to irk me... Houston isn't in CUSA. Houston is in AAC. Doesn't change what level player he is one bit, but damn

If you look at the top 100 players you’ll probably find 70 different colleges and tons of guys from smaller schools.

But generally they perform at those schools.

If you’re physically gifted enough you can get away with a lot against weaker competition.
