That can come from a good body hit.

To go along with your question; I have played high school, college and Arena and I have never been told to go after a person who had a concussion or take out an ACL. Of course I played offense so maybe that's why but seriously this went a little far. Actually he went too far. I have heard things like, "the DE or OLB hurt his ankle last game so we will run it to his side and test him", but I never heard a coach tell our lineman to go after his leg. Or if I was matchup with a DB that was injured we'd test him on a few quick routes but that's it. Now I have heard coaches say let's go out there and hurt someone but we didn't take it as "let's INJURE someone". This is just kind of crazy. Of course this is just my humble opinion.

Yea I didn't mind any of that. What pisssed me off was when he talked about cheap shots. Hell I guarantee the 49ers DC was saying similar things (excluding the ACL comment) before that game

The ACL comment aside, what are coaches supposed to say?

Exactly. Cheap shots have no place in professional sports. An injury to someone can permanently end their careers. Of course this can happen on any play, but holy shite. The rest of the shite he said wasn't that big of a deal. I was pissed off only at the ACL comment because I had a good buddy who could dunk at 13, nicest, most humble guy I've ever known, and his future was ruined by an ACL injury. He was never the same player ever.

I'm sure there's many more ways to get your team fired up than saying what he said. I couldn't tell you exactly what. If so, I'd be a motivational speaker.

Everyone mentions the ACL, but the other thing nobody mentions is GW telling them to go after a dude that was having concusion issues all season long. That is potential life-long injury stuff.

Again, alot of Coaches tell their team to go for a known injury. It's not just football. They do it in boxing, MMA and I'm sure a few other sports. It's called taking advantage of another players weakness. If the guy has that bad of a history of concussions, then maybe he shouldn't be on the field.

It may be hypocritical of me to say, but I have no issue with knowing someone has concussion issues and trying to hit them hard, legally, within the rules of the game. Specifically targeting a knee or ankle for injury is my problem. "Testing" their ACL or ankle by means of running them around in the game or whatnot is also different.

I still gotta disagree on this one.

GW specifically acknowledges that he wants to test out this guys concussion.

I played football my entire childhood until I graduated Highschool. I played for a class 4A team that was always in contention for the state finals, and I can guarantee you that 90% of football players have heard similar speeches. With the exception of the ACL comment, because most coaches really don't want to hurt players.

From the ages of 7-18 I played organnized football. In high school, we were losing a game once at halftime. Our defensive coordinator picked up a trash can and started throwing everything in it at us and told us this what we loooked like in the first half. He told us to go out there and rip of the other teams head and shite down their neck. Now, it was just a figure of speech and we were in fact playing like shite against a team who we had no business losing to at the time, that was the only time where I saw one of our coaches flip out like that. Usually, they could make their point loud and clear without getting all emotional like that. I can never recall a coach telling me or any other player to intentionally hurt the opponent. Its football, you don't have to tell someone to do that. Its a given you go out there and play within the context of the game as hard as you can. Injuries are gonna come no matter what.

There's a diffeence between injuries happening as a by product, and a coach specifically saying to go injure and test out concussions.

That's basically what I was trying to say

The remember me shots and making a guy think if he wants to be out there etc are fine by me. That's been preached at every level but the ACL thing just aggravates me on so many levels.
