Ditka checked his nuts walking off the field and made an obscure gesture after the Titans game in 99 when he was met with a myriad of fans booing him after the game.

Can anyone find a video of this? I’ve searched the internet and came up with nothing.

One of my college roomates was so pumped for that hire. I was not. Told him he was not good of a coach. The defense for the Bears in 85 won the Super Bowl. Then the asshat ditka traded all the damn picks to select one player. Ricky f’n Williams. I hated the Ditka years. Billie Jo whoever was always the QB.
Yes that Browns game with him on the turf at end was basically the summary of his coaching the Saints.

I was in section 142 row 14 to witness that Hail Mary bs. I was just a kid but a fricking diehard. I died.

he was sprawled out on the field after the hail mary at the end.

what a miserable ride home that was.

Probably wouldn’t be able to do this today.

Also forgot about the gold numbers.

I’ve felt angrier/sadder walking out of the Dome after a shocking Saints loss before- like the 1983 Rams game and the 2001? Jets Turley helmet throwing game, but I’ve never walked out the Dome more shocked than the Browns 1999 game. There was silence as 65,000 walked out of the Dome saying ‘what the frick just happened’???

That Keith Poole picture is from the season finale against the Chiefs in '97. Poole caught a TD in the third.

Tamarick Vanover owned us in that game. Had two long punt returns including a touchdown.

Saints history is full of pain.

Section 639 row 17.

My Dad and I decided we won and started walking to the car to beat traffic. We turn on 870 right as the Hail Mary was caught. We were in total disbelief.

Fun fact I remember hearing:
The defense was practicing defending the Hail Mary the week of the game, Brett Bech of the practice squad apparently actually caught both passes in practice.

Brett Bech is a great name from Saints history.

Brett's nephew Jack will be a freshman at LSU this upcoming season.

Say what you will about Ditka's poorly-coached/poorly-managed teams, but he was a true media personality & quote-machine. I even wrote down some his quotes I've taken as life lessons.

This was a breath of fresh air after having Mora who had a continuously contentious relationship with the media.

mmk. i know Mora kind of treated the media like shite, but don’t recall Ditka being mr. all access or anything close to that.

Never heard Ditka referred to as "a breath of fresh air." Interesting perspective.
