What you fail to realize is Greg Zuerlein probably has the leg to make it from 70 yds. SP knew this and was trying to get 7. It's a TD without the intentional non existent PI. I believe there was actually a run play called but Brees noticed the confusion with the defense and called an audible to pass. (Hints why Robey-Coleman bee lined straight for TLL ,he had no idea where the ball was.)

Agree on the first point. I believe Payton and Brees calculated they would need one more first down to bleed the clock out. Brees simply did not execute.

I saw an analysis on the Tommylee play. It was a great play design (one we usually run for Kamara) and it confused the Rams. Their secondary was messed up prior to the snap. Of course we know how the play unfolded with the db out of position and chasing.

That's the bitter pill I can't swallow. The Rams were rewarded for bad play with a SB berth. Unacceptable.

This is bullshite.

Because you don't play or call a perfect game, you aren't entitled to fair officiating in said game?

That's BS, they did enough to win the game, sans the no holds barred play.

define nobody...because there have been 50 of the smartest posters in the room come on this board and say we should've played better.

well no shite

but, we played well enough to win the game. thats why we were about to be in a position to run out the clock and kick the game winning FG to go to the super bowl.

then IT happened

But why stop there with the "should have happened"..

Why not just slam dunk it with Brees scores everytime he touches the ball..

and the rams fumble the ball on every drive and then the defense recovers and returns it for a touch down..

Or better yet...

The Rams merely forfeit the game....

See how the pretend game works.. ya don't get to play games that way... we had what we had when we had it and with 1:40 or so on the clock the refs missed two very blatant flags at a time and moment during the game that should have put the Saints in a position to put the game away.

We don't get to pick which reality we live in...

Putting "some of the blame" on the saints because they could have done things differently to avoid this situation is a complete cop-out. THAT NO CALL COST THE SAINTS THE GAME with what actually occurred. Putting "blame" on the saints here is like blaming the victim of a sexual assault because she "Shouldn't have been in that neighborhood" or "walking by herself." Everything that happens would not have happened the way it did if a multitude of events did not lead up to it, but that does not excuse blatant wrongdoing when it occurs. To use maybe a more PC example, JFK would not have been shot in Dallas if he had cancelled his trip to Dallas, so I guess you would say he gets "some of the blame" too? Not hardly.

Is we got hosed on the PI call. PI gets called, we have the ball 1st and goal at the 1 yard line with 1:40 left, Rams have one timeout, we kneel it three times, kick the game winning FG with 3 seconds left.

Yeah but we've all watched the NFL enough to know the refs aren't going to make a call to END THE GAME.

They always swallow the whistle in the 4th in the playoffs to make the PLAYERS decide the game. Not subjective refs.

It's always been like that. OP is right...Saints should have run the fricking ball.

Those 40 extra seconds the Rams ended up getting ended up being pretty damn important to tie the game.

Payton totally mis-managed the end of the game and the entire fricking 4th quarter. Given multiple chances to win apart from the missed PI and he pissed it away.

And Brees arm is toast. He himself had a chance to win the game multiple times ala Brady. Couldn't get it done and instead of TD or FG we got an INT.

So based off that logic... should the saints have pile drived Goff head first into the turf since there are no more rules?

needs to go to Payton and Brees and heres why. Yes the PI should of been called but it should of never came to that
This is complete and utter bullshite. Everything done by Payton and brees up to that point was enough to win except for gross incompetence by the refs. If they do their job, Saints win. Period. All your doing is trying to cope by lying to yourself.

I upvoted you.

We should be able to have a conversation about this separate from the blown no call.

I mean it's situational football. Sure at any other time you check out of the run play but the priority here is to run the damn ball and force the use of the time-outs.

Payton is a great coach but if he has any weakness it's in these situations where his aggressiveness get the best of him. Some call it being too cute.

I mean there is a huge difference in the Rams having 1:40 AND a timeout and having 1:00 with NO time outs.

I'm not saying they should have kneeled it, you still try for the first down but you run it 3 times.

Bingo we now have a winner....

Rams had 9 in the box and were in cover 0. I trust brees 99/100 to throw a strike on a quick slant to Thomas. If they execute that as the normally do we aren’t having this convo and we are inbthw super bowl. Thomas either scores or better yet, falls down at the one and we run the clock and lutz kicks a 10yd fg as time expires

Running the ball saves maybe 30 seconds which would have mattered very little considering how well the rams had been moving the ball and the length of Zuerlein leg.

Dont care if they had 30 in the box you run the ball on 1st and 2nd and 3rd down. You do not audible in that situation. if this was a regular season game then yes do whatever you want but this is a game to get to the Super bowl no reason to be cute or aggressive at this point.

Do you realize the PI was a result of catching the Rams COMPLETELY off guard?
