So CSP never let go or traded a player that was good or did better after leaving during his coaching the Saint? Simple huh
I made a thread about this. Several on the defensive side. I can’t remember a single one on offense.
This guy woukd be the first.

He let the greatest WR in Saints history get cut over a simple request to reduce his salary
This is difficult because of Drew & Payton's ability to make no name receivers look good to great. Only ones that come to mind that still had something in the tank would be Snead (but don't recall what he did when he left), Mechem (but his issues were more about him), and Cooks (again personnel issue not production)

got rid of Kenny Stills and Jimmy Graham in the same season
Posted on 8/22/25 at 10:24 am to saints5021
Good call on both. Graham was another personal issue as it was obvious Sean was salty about how the contract disputes went.

Well, he basically needs to produce like Joe Horn, or the expense of a 4th and 7th for him was a bad move.
So you expect a 4th next year to be able to perform like Horn? The success rate of a 4th rounder is 20%. He doesn’t need to perform any where near Horn to be worth the 4th rounder.

From what I read, Payton was going to lose one of his guys regardless of what he did. He may have shopped more than one and picked the best value.

Sproles was a key player on the wrong side of 30. Even then he only got like 2 good years after us.
Big difference and then again the main reason he had to trade him is because they figured sprooles out in his system. Yeah he could be good elsewhere but if he stayed in New Orleans it would've been a decline.

Then listen to CSP and not me.
Coach said he regretted letting Sproles go.
Is that good enough for you lol

The number of downvotes on this post is alarming. Way too many unreasonably negative peeps.

Our TE’s are nonexistent all over the field.

No its not because he still would’ve been figured out in a saints uniform .
My random memory is very good. I knew before even looking up Sporles last season was that year Kuecley had 24 tackles in a game against us.
That offense was completely figured out it was time to move on from sproles. In fact the Luke game was December and Sproles was gone a few months later.
Now that I actually looked it up he had 88 yards against ATL to open the year. And after that dude didn’t even get 40 yards receiving against a division opponent all year. Both playoff games under 35 too.
They solved Payton he had to shake it up.

Hey genius, Joe Horn was a 5th round pick by the Chiefs back in 1996.

That’s what’s called an exception, not the rule… genius
He is top three statistically in saints history. How many 5th rounders are top 5 statistically for any team vs those that didn’t even make it in the NFL for a year?

Do you have expectations that a 5th rounder by every team is going to perform up to the level of Joe horn?
Posted on 8/27/25 at 7:08 am to eddieray
If he becomes a WR that can be a vacuum cleaner for balls thrown his way I will be happy.
We desperately need a WR that can be reliable to catch anything within his catch radius to help these young QB's. YAC would be great but reliable hands are #1. YDS or Yds/catch aren't as important as can he get past the sticks and catch the ball to extend drives? Can he be a guy that can go up and get contested balls in the endzone? Can he make those catches if they are not thrown perfectly?

Snead and Meachem never came close to replicating the success they had with us.
Cooks had multiple 1k yard seasons after he left, but his best two seasons were with us when you account for his yardage and tds scored.

I’m all for a Vele getting 1500 yards to make Payton look like an a-hole
