We aren’t (or at least we shouldn’t be) in win now mode. The NFL has lots of examples of teams that are bad for decades that suddenly get a great QB are instant contenders. (Ex Bills, Bengals, etc.) We need to take the next two years and clear the cap hell we are in and stock the team with young cheap talent. Then in three years we can draft arch manning just like we did for his grandfather decades ago. Being from his family he will be as close to a guaranteed success as you can get. How many rookie QBs grew up watching both his uncles win multiple Super Bowls and have them on speed dial?

The Eagles went from shite to the Superbowl in 2 seasons with a 2nd round QB. Stop it with this crap that we need the #1 overall pick.

Lets take a stroll down the list of #1 QBs and how they've fared:

Lawrence (2021) - Looks good but too early to tell.
Burrow (2020) - Prodigy, generational talent, been to 1 SB and was one defensive stop away from a 2nd.
Murray (2019) - Talented, hurt, and reportedly a terrible teammate and terrible preparer. Hard pass.
Mayfield (2018) - About to be on his 4th team, and none of the previous 3 have anything good to say.
Winston (2015) - Do I need to say more?
Luck (2012) - Made the CC once and then quit a few years later.
Newton (2011) - Had a good run with one extremely good year where he won MVP and lost a SB. Was on a very talented team that year as well, but folded in the SB.
Bradford (2010) - Complete bust.
Stafford (2009) - Great career, rescued by the Rams and won a SB. Great pick.
Russell (2007) - The greatest bust in NFL history, right at the #1 overall pick.
Smith (2005) - Good pick that got better later in his career.
Manning (2004) - Talented QB that did enough to get his team to the big game twice, then won it on the back of his D-line. Stats say HOF player.
Palmer (2003) - Great start, derailed by injuries.
Carr (2002) - Bust
Vick (2001) - Generational talent that came 15 years too early. Probably would have won 1-2 Superbowls in the modern era. Never won MVP or never made it to the SB in his era.

You've got a better chance of getting a bust at #1 then you do a starter. Go find someone in FA that you know can already play at that level, and may break out with some fine tuning.

Doesn’t matter how good we are, Roger keeps scripting us out. I’ve divested from the idea that the NFL is actually a competitive league based on purity of sport.

Da Aints. Its in the DNA. Tulane had more banners hanging in the rafters than da aints, until they moved outta the dome

That kid hasn’t even taken a college snap yet and you’re ready to say we draft him with a future 1st and make him the franchise cornerstone? I’m not even sold on him playing in college. When he had to play against good defenses in high school they gave him problems, what do you think the NFL is going to do?

Archie told Eli not to play for the Chargers specifically because they were a losing team. I'm sure he'd do the same for Arch even if it is the Saints.

Sure. Look at all the losing seasons and crappy teams Archie had to deal with. Don’t want that same crap for Arch.

Team will be a bottom third team until Allen is gone.

That's probably true. He is perfect for shepherding us through these darktimes. If we play our cards right we can cleanup our cap hell and once we are clear fire Allen and hire a young hotshot offensive head coach draft a top QB and be great for another decade!

Every organization in the NFL is suppose to have up cycles and down cycles. The draft and the FA with the Cap are variables where bad teams , in theory, become better through the draft and FA. Great teams draft in later portions of the rounds.
Obviously, highly skilled GM’s can bundle draft picks and make trades to improve an organization.

Peyton manning wasn’t playing until 45 years old and neither was Drew Brees or Tom Brady.

Elite QB’s fall off and the bad teams have a better opportunity to hit on a new generation of elite skilled players.

The Saints had basically 15 years of living in the penthouse except for three consecutive 7-9 seasons. We had an elite QB and coaching. Now, we are going n the down cycle and it will be sometime before we can hit on another QB that can compete with the Burrows, Mahomes, and the Allens. The bengals were crap when the Saints were winning. The Bills sucked since Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas left. KC had mediocre teams for many years.

Saints should tank and rebuild. Accept a losing era of 3-5 years instead of trying to stay at 8-9 or 9-8. Hit the reset button.

Burrow wasn’t a prodigy or generational talent. He wasn’t some 5 star recruit. Couldn’t get on the field at Ohio State. Wasn’t that good first season at LSU. Something clicked with him mentally before that 2019 season that changed everything for him.

Also, many of those guys you listed were question marks. Lawrence and Luck were the guys generational guys. The two guys next year could be that good. Caleb Williams is special. Drake Maye might be.

Wasn’t even the best qb recruit in his class. Quite a few guys more talented than him.
