Yes we should

28 years old, 71 sacks in 7 year career. Was shifted to OLB in a 3-4 last year, still had 10.5 sacks.

Perfect fit for our defense, last year of his deal at $4.9mm

If they are shopping him my guess would be either they want a huge return or he is a locker room cancer. Don't know enough about him to say how credible the latter is.

And if it's the former, we are giving up a high value pick(s) for a guy that will need to be paid and is almost 30 when the payday comes.

From what I’ve read, it’s almost exclusively contract related. A little scheme related.

$4.9 million is criminally underpaid for him

I’d gladly send a 2nd and some kind of middle round swap. Give up a 4th and get back a 5th, something like that.

Could be a case where he’s willing to play on a 1 year deal, just not with the Vikings.

He’d feast in our defense. If the compensation isn’t outrageous, I’d happily rent him for a year with the opportunity to keep him long term. Our DE depth is terrifying.

He wants to be paid.

The top 5 DE salaries range from 20 to 25mil

You okay with paying him a 3/60mil because that's gonna be his minimal cost.

Yes. He’d be the best pass rusher on our team easily.

That's my concern. Super high salary heading into his 30s and will likely cost a very high pick.

Not saying he wouldn't be worth it, but definitely something to consider.

He’s on the last year of his contract. I doubt he will bring in a lot in a trade. K. Mack was traded for a 2nd, Roquan Smith was traded for a 2nd and 5th. I’d guess he could be had for a 3rd or some equivalent.

Do it

We can win this division this year and slowly building a roster that could go deep in the playoffs

A 2nd makes sense. And the only team that going to do that is going to sign him to a long term contract.

I don’t think we are in a position to do that.

Signing him long term is a problem for the Saints. Not sure if we could structure his contract in a way the guaranteed money kicks in when Cam retires or something like that.

His contract was front end loaded so he received the majority of his contract up front. He is 100% looking for another big contract and forcing the Vikings hand. He has no intention of playing for $4.9 this year. No we shouldn’t

No I think they just don’t want to pay him and get at least something for him in return.

You could sign him to a new deal but it wouldn't be that high.

He is playing this year for $4.9 million So you just have to really up his guaranteed money.

So go after it like 3 years/$50 million. $30 million guaranteed.

That raises his 2023 salary to basically 10 million and gives him $20 million for 2024 and 2025.

You have guaranteed 2023 and 2024.

Even his previous deal was below market. He's wanting to get paid his value, plain and simple.

Let another team set his market value first, then proceed from there.
