No real commitment there. Probably will keep him if they are in the hunt or trade him at deadline if not. They will likely be in the hunt though

Incorrect! It is 2023 raise. He is a free agent after that if not resigned. He was not going to play for 4.9M so it was either give him a raise, cut, let him sit out, or trade him.
