Payton is usually very quiet about competition or progress. Thought he was quite effusive in how good Charles Brown is doing. The only bad thing is that he'll be a UFA next spring if he busts out with a big year. Armstead waiting in the wings if he splits I suppose.

When does Strief contract end? I'm thinking if things are going well, Loomis might try extend him mid season. Having him and Armstead long term would give us a good tackle duo.

I don't know what to think about effusive but maybe he feels bad for how tough his words were about him during offseason and he's kissing free agent butt.

This shouldn't be surprising. Payton was high on Brown after drafting him but Brown's inability to stay healthy cut into Payton's enthusiasm.
Even if Brown were to leave through free agency if he has a solid season this year, the team is in pretty good shape by having Armstead waiting to step up.

I think I would add "relieved" :lol
It was his major concern on the off. and it looks to be going well.
Noticed his comment that Stills and Toon will get alot of looks with the one's on Friday.
Thats good to hear.
Will be in the dome Friday

I think this kid will be fantastic once he gets some experience under his belt. He has everything you could possibly want physically out of a lineman and more.

UFA next year. Will be 31 in 2014 too. He would fall into the at the right price category for me. Dunno if I'd spend more than his $2.5mil contract this year.

I met brown in a store downtown recently and happened to mention if he was "ready" to take over LT...he answered with "This is it..it's now or never so I've got to be ready"
