I have to think they are going to start tipping their hand very soon. Time is rapidly approaching and they will need to really start working towards this.
We will know the direction of this franchise within 15 days.

Having seen the way Mickey works, he probably has all of the documents sitting on his desk and will send them to the NFL on 3/12. Outside of extensions or actual cuts, no reason any of this would hit the media anyway

No, traditionally we start seeing the Saints moves before the deadline. They will start trickling out soon, probably right after MG.

Yeah with the way this front office operates every year, this is business as normal to them. The leg work has been done likely long in advance and now they are just waiting to execute the plan.
I honestly think the front office would be unsure of what to do if they were actually under the cap for once instead of tens of millions over.

They either need to bite the bullet now and cut him as a designated post 6/01 cut, then find a way to clear the other ~$45M to get under the cap by 3/12. The on 6/28 you clear the extra $28M??? and you sign your draft picks then and get involved in the secondary FA market. Or you roll with him for 2025 and set-up the roster to cut him 1 year from now.
Exactly right

This is why I told someone else that the first thing that will tell us what they're doing is what they do with Carr. Very different approaches to the offseason depending on if we keep him or not.

Mickey would go into withdrawals as they approached the deadline and would start extending/restructuring those reserve/future guys that every team scoops up at the end of the year

His $10M roster bonus is already due since he survived last year's cut. But, if he's still on the roster on 3/15, his full $30M is now guaranteed. So now you are looking at $80M in dead money over 2025 & 2026
i thought it was about 60mil guaranteed. i knew it would be 30 this year, but i thought it was 30 next year too with a restructure pre june 1 of this year. (if we traded or cut him post june 1).

Congratulations, they are now only $45,579,537 over the cap until they are able to recognize the post 6/01 savings. They need to be complaint by 3/12, post 6/01 cap cuts don't hep here
Can they extend Carr a couple years to get compliant and then post June 1 him for the same cap hit as of today?

Unless Carr, Badger, Hill, Cam, DeMario etc start taking pay cuts not restructuring it will be 2028 or beyond (if we draft well) that we can expect to compete for the South.
There is actually a scenario where they can clear the books by 2026 regardless of what route they take with Carr. Short some crazy spending spree they are certainly out of the hole by 2027. NOF wrote a good piece on this topic last week.

My numbers could be a little off base, and I am only going off of what is from OTC.
Right now his contract is as followed:
2025: base salary of $30M, $11.5M in deferred bonuses to hit the books, and a $10M roster bonus that is fully guaranteed
2026: base salary of $50M, $11.5M in deferred bonuses to hit the books
2027: $17.2M in deferred bonuses to hit the books
If they cut him now (before 3/15), he will have a $50M cap hit on the 2025 cap. $40M for the deferred bonuses, and $10M for that guaranteed roster bonus. His cap hit for 2026 & 2027 will be $0
Designate him a post-6/01, then on 6/02 $28.7M comes off of the 2025 cap and goes to the 2026 dead money - 2027 still $0
If they wait until after 3/15 to cut him, that $30M base salary for 2025 becomes guaranteed. So his dead money will now be $80M ($30M guaranteed salary, $10M guaranteed roster bonus, $40M deferred bonuses). Even if you wait until 6/02 to cut him, his 2025 cap hit will be $51.5M ($30M guaranteed salary, $10M guaranteed roster bonus, $11.5M deferred bonuses), and his 2026 dead cap hit will be the $28.7M from deferred bonuses.
IMO, because of cap restraints I think he is given 2025 to see if he can rebound into that "MVP type season" Carr in this offense. If not, look for him to be cut in 2026, and possibly designated a post-6/01/26 cut. If he's still on the roster the 5th day of the 2026 league year, $10M of his $50M salary turns into a guaranteed roster bonus

The NFL's salary cap will be a record-high $279.2 million in 2025, an increase of $23.8 million.
The league informed teams of the new cap figure on Thursday during the NFL Scouting Combine.
The salary cap was set at $255.4 million in 2024, up more than $30 million from the previous year
