I think he'll be a good player. I wouldn't get him if I where the Saints though. Too many bad influences in NO.

There are bad influences everywhere for a new pro player with $$$. At least in N.O. he would have his family to keep an eye on him.

Maybe the Saints could get him a room at Manresa.

Actually this thread is about a Hall of Fame Cornerback and Returner making comments on Tyrann Mathieu that has no fricking affiliation with LSU nor the Saints so get your facts straight bitch.

He's not completely unbiased either. Deion works with both Peterson and Peterson's father in speed training camps for draft prospects. He was probably there for at least a few Tyrann/Peterson training sessions

Which shows that he has watched tm train and do drills more than most. I doubt he is just saying these things if he doesn't believe them

He won't be able to cover bigger CBs on the outside. He's a slot cover guy and that's fine, he can do that well. He can't cover the perimeter in the NFL. It's not even that he doesn't have the skill, it's not his fault he's only 5'8". The slot is his role, and he'll be able to free roam from it which is better for him because that's how he makes plays. He can be a good player at what he's asked to do, but he won't be balling against the Calvin Johnsons or the AJ Greens of the NFL. Now, against the Wes Welkers and Victor Cruzs, I think so.

Yes bc so many current starting corners shut them down so easily

This is a cop out excuse to me.

No, when I say the Calvins and the AJs I mean bigger WRs. Wes Welker and Cruz are good WRs and I said that he could cover them. I'd draft him in the third or fourth, but to play in the slot and on ST.

^ I agree.

He's not a #1 corner for sure, due to the mismatches. But he could definitely play #2 on the Saints, he's pretty much a lock as nickel and special teams on most any other team right now.

I think his biggest selling feature is the fact he has return ability. Even if he isn't used on the defense much, he can still earn his keep on ST.

While he did not run as well as many expected (Low 4.5’s depending on which scout I spoke with), Mathieu’s workout was strong. His balance, agility and quickness showed in his ability to stay in position in drill even when his footwork/technique was not sharp. He also proved that he has rare ball skills as he looks natural going up and catching the ball. Lastly, sources told us that within a day most of the defensive backs were following Mathieu as he has natural charisma and leadership. - See more at: LINK
