Rattler can’t be our future. I know his fan boys on here will tell you different but it’s the truth. Also if the coaches think Shough isn’t as good as Rattler, well we have a real problem next season.

The likelihood is both are nothing more than bridge qbs, something you shouldn't use the 40th pick on.

This exactly. I get they didn’t use a first on him. But we used a top 40 pick on this guy and we are yet to see him take a snap.

Yes, it’s only week 5. But so far, it seems like a wasted pick for a top 40 player to sit the bench behind a 5th round pick.

The point of the thread was to focus on the now, in the present. Maybe rattler gets benched and Shough gets action. But so far, it’s not looking like a smart decision when our team has needs up and down the roster.

Did we draft Shough to be our franchise guy? If so, fine. But we’re currently in a rebuild, and wasting top 40 picks on a backup (as of now) QB does not scream success.

And I’ll guess you’ll continue to be a shitty boomer that chooses to be bothered by things that one can simply choose to not participate or respond to with such repetitive and unoriginal responses.

Such a shame

I agree. That was my take too. Draft a position player at that point, stick with Rattler, keep Haener, maybe pick up a veteran back up. Keep building your roster with younger talent. Draft a QB in 1st rd. in '26. Although, '26 looked to be good before the college season started, it's kind of an unknown right now.

It's going to be week 12. It's the week after the bye. They will be sufficiently out of the playoff race. Shough will have an extra week to get ready and 7 games to show what he can do.

Again, complaining about this in week 5 is silly.

If he ends up becoming the QB of the future and supplanting Rattler, I guarantee you won’t be pissed off anymore.

Let’s not act like Rattler is our proven franchise QB now just because he won one game and improved his record to 1-10.

He was a wasted pick the moment they called his name at the draft.

In the NFL, you either have a QB or you don't. The Saints did not have a QB going into the draft. QBs cost capital. You draft a QB until one pans out. Most don't.

If you have an issue with the Shough pick, then you are an idiot.

This is the dumbest reasoning for taking Shough that I've seen yet and there's been A LOT of them.

I absolutely have an issue with us using the # 40 overall draft pick on a quarterback who played college ball for six years and never did anything noteworthy.

If you can give me one example of a guy like that, who panned out at the NFL level, I'll admit I'm wrong. Until then, you're as unintelligent as Loomis and co.

You don't just waste high draft picks on guys you don't think will succeed, just because you don't have another guy in the building yet that you like. You draft BPA ALWAYS, until you have the opportunity to get your franchise quarterback. If that means you have 2-3 bad years, while stockpiling high draft picks and elite talent, then so be it. Making the most of every asset is always the smart thing to do. Gambling on a longshot is never smart.

His won / loss record says otherwise.

Only low-IQ types judge QBs on wins/losses, which are a team stat

I'm no Rattler-stan, but he's been the QB of a terrible roster his entire career.

So when we are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs in say week 10 you think CKM keeps playing Ratt?

Bad organizations throw rookie QBs out to the wolves on day 1. Ward wouldn't have started game 1 if Will Levis didn't get hurt. Dart and Gabriel probably started a little to soon for their development.

Just look at Drake Maye. The Patriots started Brissett, knowing he wasn't the future, for the first dozen games to give Maye a chance to acclimate to the NFL. Was anyone calling Maye a wasted pick in week 6 of last season?

Playing 6 years in college is a recent phenomena, so this is a useless comparison.

As far QB's who never did anything noteworthy in college but became quality NFL starters, where do I start?

Drake Maye's best season in college was 9-4. Would you say Maye never did anything noteworthy? You draft QBs based on traits that translate to the NFL, not college success. Our own damn coach was the winningest college QB ever and he could barely make an NFL roster, so he is literally the expert on that.

Rattler is 1-10 as a starter. Let's not pretend he's playing good.

The Saints are 1-10 with him as a starter. He's not the only reason we 0-10. He was surrounded by McDonald's fry cooks and dogshit last year. Idiots like you think he should have won games fielding a HS roster.

Drafting another guy for the job can be a huge motivator for the incumbent.

A year after the Cowboys drafted Troy Aikman they drafted Steve Walsh from Miami.

The Shough pick reminds me a little bit of the Walsh pick.

You’ll get downvoted, but this is the correct take. It was a waste of the 40th overall pick where we could have gotten a player who is starting now.

you do realize the draft was before spring training, yes?

eta: I meant training camp. but my point still stands.

He started this season with actual NFL players surrounding him and still went 1-4.

He isn't the solution (watch all those throws he can't make or refuses to attempt) and while he isn't the biggest problem (Ruiz) he is a problem.

Every single pick is taking a damn chance. JFC
I know. After they've played we can all 20/20 the ones that worked out.
