I think it is because we are middle of the road most years.
We are good enough to lay an arse whipping on any team at any time, but we are just so-so enough for teams to get upset when they lose to us.
I think prior to maybe the last 7-8 games this season most fans looked at the schedule and thought the Saints game was one that they could win.

Funny to see all these “fans” supporting a coach that not even 6 months ago most wanted out of New Orleans. Just re-read some of the threads on here saying how bad of a coach he is and now he’s good in everyone’s book?

only interaction i had with the guy was a quick handshake back in January 2006.
he was in my hometown for the Senior Bowl.
shook his hand as I was walking out of a bar and he was walking in. I said "thanks for coaching the Saints".
he said, "don't thank me yet"
at the time I thought this guy has good jokes. Never would have thought a Super Bowl win was waiting a few years later.
csb.

The hate us cause they ain't us. Amirite?

They’re jealous and they hate winners. Haters gonna hate. Look at the patriots. There’s absolutely no reason to hate them, bellichek or Brady, yet more than half the country does and no one has 2 emotions regarding the Browns. It’s simply you’re too good and make it hard for everyone else boo hoo so frick you.
Think about this and do you agree? Had the jaguars won this Super Bowl and the next two, they would be seeing patriots level hate even though everyone loves them now

Probably for the bountygate BS, and his antics on the sideline like the throatslash and choke sign to players, and mocking the Vikings fans with the skol clap just before the end of the game.
That said, it's funny Falcons fans give him shite for the Vicodin when their entire team was caught popping pain killers like skittles.

Well, he did just cost his Pro Bowlers $30k by going for it on 4th down in his own territory with under two minutes left.

Yeah that was very poor judgment on his part. Very poor.
That's the thing about Payton -- from time to time, he makes poor decisions.

His timeouts when on Defense at the ends of first halves drive me nuts...

It's because the NFL didn't want 2009, and the league has done everything they can to ensure it doesn't happen again. The Saints aren't a marquee team, and our market is negligible. We're supposed to be filler, at most a safe fun offensive team for the stars to overcome (think: Dan Fouts Chargers teams). 2009 was shaping up to be an NFL marketing wet dream; Peyton Manning vs Brett Favre. Iconic QBs that would have had the nation buzzing for "the best Super Bowl ever". We screwed that up and cost the league millions; not only did we knock Brett out, we then stole Peyton's glory in the big game. How does the league respond? On MULTIPLE levels. Not only do they hit the Saints with unprecedented scorched earth tactics for a bullshite reason, they also make the Favre Rule for overtime, eliminating the way the Saints won that game (now the team that gives up a FG on an opening drive still gets "a chance". Because defense apparently sucks, or something). If you don't think this is the case, ask yourself- if the Saints hadn't won in OT against Favre, does the OT rule get changed? Have you seen any other team get completely dismantled by the league, even when there's more solid evidence of cheating? What were the injuries the Saints caused in their horrible "bountygate"? What's wrong with a pool to reward big plays in big games, as long as the plays are legal on the field? I mean, frick, the teams always reward players for things. Fournette bought all his linemen Rolexs, maybe we should investigate whether they were intentionally holding or "trying to take out defensive players"? But no, the Saints are terrible villains in all this. And because the only teams and fanbases that have any empathy and connection to ours are the other NFC South teams, blasting us helped them and they went along with it.
Scoob nails it. Thanks.

If you can’t see a younger, much thinner version of Parcels by looking at Payton, you’re more blind and lost than Stevie Wonder at a death metal concert.
