Time to play hard ball

I read a post here stating that we would get a low first and two fourth round picks for Payton. This is ridiculous. We have to demand more or simply make Payton sit out. If this has to last for two more years, and we get nothing, I am fine with that. Play all of Payton's potential suitros off against each other.

That’s idiotic

Whats idiotic is giving a top coach away for nothing because he decided he needed “a break” that lasted about 10 min. The chance to hire a coach with paytons accolades doesnt come around often. You either want him or you dont.

Nope, first guy is correct. Under almost no circumstance is getting nothing better than getting something. I hope the Saints get multiple high picks but getting a 1st, even a late one, helps this team. Please explain how getting nothing helps. We need talent, not moral victories.

You are too emotional to post about this topic. Sit this one out, you aren’t thinking clearly because you’re still hurt he left.

We can’t really play the suitors against one another. All we can do is agree to compensation for Payton. He decides where he goes, not us.

You're not going to get what you think for Payton. Owners are not so inclined to give a Gruden like deal anymore.

The saints decide where he goes. Saints are in complete control. They can choose not to trade him at all. He is the one that wants to break the contract and coach somewhere else.

Rumor is he wants 20-25 million per year, making him the highest paid coach in the NFL above Bellichek. Not that SP isn't a great coach, but he doesn't deserve that. And, where the heck is Denver getting the money to pay him? Didn't they just give that d-bag Russell Wilson a billion dollars or something?

There is no reason to think that there late first round pick is all the compensation we get for Payton. Loomis needs to stand tough. A first and third this year. A second next year plus a player like Patrick Surtain.

No salary cap on coaches.

Can’t trade for players and they’re not gonna do a 7th-rounder for Surtain. League would investigate and wouldn’t hesitate to hammer the Saints on this. Why is this such a hard concept for people to grasp? You’re not getting a player for a coach. Period.

It’s also idiotic to think a first rounder and two fourth rounders is “nothing.” Some of you are so caught up in what we are getting in return your judgement is clouded.

Are you trolling with the Patrick Surtain thing or just ignoring when people tell you players can’t be involved lol

No, a bottom 4 pick in the 1st round and 2 random arse 4ths is pretty close to nothing relative to the value of Payton - a SB winning head coach and architect of some of the best offenses in league history. Then you throw in the context of the Broncos needing a savior for their beleaguered QB on his huge deal and the Saints should get a king's ransom. If it comes down to it the Broncos need to be selling off some players for more picks that they can give us.
Some of you act like we should just trade him for what we can get like he's Michael Thomas or something. Less than 50% of 1st rounders hit with that percentage declining the later you get into the 1st, and way less than 50% of 4th rounders hit. How would you feel if we in effect got jack shite for Payton by drafting busts from the no real high-end picks we got? It would be against the Saints's best interest to just get what they can get and put the team at a competitive disadvantage. We need picks higher in the 1st, period.
Or we hold Payton for ransom. Because frick him, this is a business.
Just like he told Darren Sproles.

That’s not how it works, the Saints can’t choose his destination.
