Time to Completely Restructure this Offense

This offense and team in general honestly lacks guys who have the quick twitch athleticism and explosiveness to simply take over a game. Our offense is 100% scheme and timing based and all it takes to throw that off is a couple of press corners. Yesterday absolutely crystalized what we had all thought for the last 4 years- the formula is out on this offense in the playoffs. The formula to stop the Saints in January is as follows:
1- Play man across the board and press our receivers. They will generate absolutely zero separation.
2- Get pressure with 4-5 guys. Pretty much bank on one all pro OL having an awful game (Ram yesterday and against Minnesota, Warford last year)
3- Wait for Brees to throw a jumping 2 yard check down and absolutely swarm to the football
This offense and the way it operates is just flat out bizarre. It always goes down 2-3 levels come playoff time.
It is absolutely fricking absurd how triggered people in this city get about Taysom hill and it is undeniably true that we need him to sustain any success offensively. He absolutely carried us in the playoffs last year and we have nothing creative or explosive without him. You are utterly lying to yourself if you don't think we need that guy to move the ball. We have a "top 3" receiver, a great number 2, and the best RB in the league and we are fricking lost without a 30 year old running QB and 5'6 UDFA Deonte Harris. It is absolutely surreal.
We literally are besides ourselves last year when Thomas catches 150 slants and comes playoff time he is a total nonfactor. We are absolutely clinging to an UDFA to take a punt to the house or the game is over. It is so so fricking absurd and bizarre and borderline impossible to wrap your head around. We have multiple All Pro's on both sides of the ball and in the most important moments every year, we lean on career backups and UDFA's to carry this team. How absolutely absurd is that
Further, Michael Thomas was an absolute nonfactor against the Rams, and he was on a milk carton yesterday. Gotta love when your $120 million receiver is absolutely nowhere to be found at the biggest moment of the year because he is locked down by a 2nd year dude from Central Michigan. Just so beyond unacceptable that he had zero catches yesterday against what is truly an average secondary.
Additionally, if Cook needs a ride to MSY I am heading that way tomorrow morning. LMK

You realize the entirety of the reason for that was Drew cant throw the ball, right? And hes now gone.

Incredibly accurate post. Anyone who disagrees with a single thing on this need call their family pediatrician. We have the most stacked roster in the league and are literally unable to move the ball come playoff time unless it’s on the shoulders of 4’9” Deonte Harris or a 30 year old Mormon. I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about this.
You can honestly make the argument Payton has been extremely deficient come playoff time the last 4 years. Holy cow

Most all of those problems go back to having a qb who lost his arm a couple years ago. Its okay man. We dont have to hold to that philosophy any longer.

I would strongly disagree with this.

So tired of this argument. It’s not like we’ve ever lost a game because of his arm. Our receivers just refuse to get open and our entire system breaks down any time some average corners play man on us

You just saw it last night.

Our receivers wouldn’t get open. His velocity on his balls were actually quite decent

I'd love to know what game film you watched to know the receivers couldn't get open. Brees doesn't ever attempt 15 yard plus throws now.

If all positions were equal, we undeniably have the best roster in the league and it's quite frankly not that close. But we know that all positions aren't of equal importance and when you're trotting out the skill-deficient QB we trotted out last night, it cascades throughout your offense. Throw Stafford out there yesterday for example. Playbook opens immensely and defenders start having to respect the downfield pass where LBs can't just sit on Kamara and 6 yd curls/outs...it all goes back to the QB.

Our WRs can't get open, our offensive line gets blown up in the playoffs, our QB is at the end of the line, but we have the most stacked roster in the league?

The same offensive players, coaches, and methods led us to skull-dragging TB 38-3 just a couple of months ago.
Your post might make more sense if we were playing a more talented team that we had not faced earlier this year.
Ultimately, it comes down to the Jims and Joes making plays, and since that BS Rams game, too many players go quiet in the playoffs. It's like these guys (and the coaches too) have PTSD from that game and it impacts them in the playoffs.
Playoff football favors the more physical team, and last night, the Bucs were more physical than us across the board.
The only consistency between regular season and playoffs this year, is that fumbles have destroyed us.

I would expect the offense to look at lot more like those early Brees teams when guys like Devery and Meachem were big factors in being able to take the top off the defense. We played the last 2+ seasons with one hand tied behind our back and it finally feels like Payton can go back to utilizing the whole field.

Philosophically Payton believe in a minimum of like 5 shot plays a game. He's had to operate in a way the past few years that has really challenged his ability to get those calls in.
Payton has been loyal to Drew, as he rightully should have, but I'm sure there is a part of him that can't wait to take the handcuffs off of his call sheet.
