"I am not retiring," Morstead said definitively.

Morstead noted his drop-off in production, saying he wouldn't get into everything behind-the-scenes, but he did give a glimpse into two setbacks he dealt with that affected his performance.

might not be retiring, but you prob arent here next year!

I like the guy but we have issues,. so going with an undrafted guy that is going to be a whole lot cheaper is the way to go.

Yeah going with Blake Giliken is a pretty much no brainer. That is happening.

Punting inside the 10 is overrated when you can punt it inside the 20” Thomas Morestead

I’m a big fan of Morestead..and he’s better than many of the punters in the NFL...but he wasn’t very good last year and his contract makes it hard to keep in New Orleans.

I think he has to go to another team if this back up we stashed is as good as advertised.

If he’s not then we will bring in some other UDFA to challenge him and the winner gets the spot.

With our cap situation, we don’t need to be paying Morstead his current contract with last year’s performance.

for the sake of debate: Morestead has admitted to his poor play. if he's willing to cut his salary way down, do you give him another year or is it better to just go with the unproven youth?

When performance could possibly be equal, you go with the guy who has the mullet 10/10 times

If Morestead gets lasik and signs for the vet minimum and out kicks Gillikin, then you can keep him. If competition is close, you go with Gillikin as the younger guy (and likely cheaper).

Put it this way, cutting him drops his cap # from $4.5M to $2.5M (drops to $1M is designated post 6/1). And the unproven youth has a cap hit of $660k

He needs to go. His punting was terrible and his holds were just as bad.

The main reason he'd be going is the cap crunch. He probably has enough leeway to get another year under regular circumstances but with the cap overage this year and the Saints seemingly being high on Gillikin, it might be a tough ask for Morstead to take a salary cut to compete for his spot.

So I think the Saints will cut him and let him try to find a job elsewhere (if he wants to keep playing somewhere else but who knows with everything happening). He might just wait and see how the youngster does in camp/early in the season; if Gillikin struggles, Morstead is possibly the Saints first call.

I was just thinking this I seem to remember a lot of his punts from around the 50 getting downed around the 20. If you’re gonna do that shite, just boot it out of the endzone and have no shot at a return

Hello: Cut (post-June 1)

Dead money: $1,000,000

Cap savings: $3,500,000

The easiest cap decision for Payton and Loomis.

Thanks for the memories and best wishes.

Considering he plays the least important position on the team, yeah
