18 years in NFL
Likely passing yards leader of all time
Super Bowl already on his resume
One last run at things, Saints have mortgaged some assets on this run yet the organization has very smartly set themselves up for the future as well.
Drew would be 40.5 years old by start of next season.
Hasn't had such a stellar training camp, we'll see how the season plays out of course.

He honestly wasn't looking all that great last camp, if I remembered correctly.

If we do end up going to Teddy for the future, I'd love for Drew to play out his contract and allow Teddy to get a full grasp on Paytons system.

Teddy will be 26.

This means we're possibly looking at him taking reigns next year at 27.

He doesn't need 2.5 years to learn a system. He's a mature intelligent quarterback.

I think he plays this year and next then walks away. But if they win a ring this season I do think he retires

I would assume Bridgewater would command starter money during free agency, so would the Saints be willing to pay two QB's starter money?

How is the second year of his contract structured?

The renewed running game helped extend his career a couple years. But seriously think about this. Drew threw for 4300 yards 24 tds and only 8 interceptions and we are thinking its a down year.

think its like 11 million base salary and 12 million roster bonus. we'd be saving 12.5 million in 2019 and 10.5 in 2020.

OK, so we won't take a hit if he retires.

I would be OK with this since we acquired TB. Now way he signs somewhere else. Why would he, starting for an O that is loaded with young talent that can win and playing for CSP.

Would likely require giving him franchise tag to get him to stay next season if Drew is still here. 20m+. We would have 50m in the position. Not possible.

I remember watching a special on him before the draft he was in. He was billed as having the highest football IQ of all the QBs in that draft. Off the charts supposedly.

Why not? He had really good numbers when he started in 2014 and 2015. Was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2015. Showed that he could still play in preseason. If he holds up this season, why wouldn't he command starter money with his upside? I'm not saying he would break the bank, but would fully expect for somebody to offer him $18-20mil/r, which is at the low end right now for starting QB's who aren't rookies.

50_Tiger had a great point, back loading the contract would prevent paying two starting salaries

Hypothetically, if we win it all this year, this is what Drew Brees would be looking at:
• Make $27 million to play one more year
• Strong likelihood of passing up Peyton Manning on the all-time passing TD list (possibly Brady too) by playing one more year
• Enter the 2019 season as the likely favorite to win another Super Bowl

I don't see how he could pass that up. I think he plays out his current contract.

Based on what? He hasn't been a starter in the league since 2015 which he was mediocre af. He couldn't keep the job in Minnesota. Couldn't earn the job in NY. He has no leverage and no good reason to command "starter" money.

Hang some skins on the wall first and we'll talk.
