This is a Lose/Lose for Atlanta

Atlanta knows they were going to suck until they got rid of Ryan. Doesn't matter if they suck a lot more to them, knowing they will have the best QB in the division next year.

They, and Watson, are punting 2022 and possibly 2023.

Its far worse than noted. The Falcons not only will have to trade Ryan's contract but will also have to be 35 million under the salary cap to accommodate Watson contract. They can of course restructure his contract once signed. Hence other players like Grady Jarrett, Deion Jones would have to be traded or cut to accommodate Watson's cap hit. Realistically, I don't see this happening. Deshaun may want to return home however, I don't see Atlanta pulling this off in the end.

I think Watson’s gonna get more than 6. How quickly we forget that he was literally the leading story on just about every sports talk show this time last year for weeks for demanding a trade. He was able to somehow turn everybody against Houston and win the PR battle that guys demanding trades or hold-outs almost never do. Then all this came out, it was a story for about a week, and then weirdly nobody spoke his name for like 6 months. My point is that most of last off-season was dominated by Watson news, and it all painted the NFL in a negative light, so I don’t expect Roger to go easy on him, regardless of whether or not he’s criminally indicted. So who’s playing QB those 4, 6, 8, 10 games Watson is suspended?

And Kamara’s probably missing 6 games himself. So besides just missing his production, we’ve got to find another RB somehow. Also still have to find a #2 WR and somebody to replace whatever player(s) go back to Houston in the trade. Whether that’s Ceedy, McCoy, both? And how are we filling those holes with no cap room and likely no 1st or 2nd round picks this year?

So I feel like Watson is kinda punting on the ‘22 season no matter where he goes. Obviously we are in better shape to tread water during the suspension(s), get on a roll, and maybe make a playoff run, but the odds of that are slim and. would take all the stars aligning. So, at 26, he’s got to look past the next couple of years—he’s got to look at the next decade. I just don’t think it’s as much of a no-brainer as a lot of you guys do, even if we’re just talking about winning.

The bottom line is they get a franchise QB under 30 that’s already proven he can win in the league. Even if they have a bad 2 years he’ll still be under 30

I agree. We have a new coach for the 1st time in 16 years who sucked the only time he’s been a HC. And he’s a defensive guy. And what is his—or the organization’s—vision for the offense? Who’s even calling our plays? Good Lord I hope not—frick the Falcons—but I think a lot of Saints fans are deluding themselves into believing in a huge gap in organizations that I’m not sure exists, and they could be ready to compete much sooner than we think.

I mean, in ‘23, Watson would have a 3rd year Pitts and a fresh Ridley to throw to and probably a ton of cap space to work with. And sure, they won’t have a 1st, but if they suck as bad as we think they will this year, they’ll be picking towards the top of each round they have picks in ‘23.

Again, I want Watson in New Orleans. But almost as much to keep him from the Falcons as I’m not convinced they can’t be very good as soon as next season (‘23).

I don’t think anybody is suggesting otherwise, just that it may be worth it to both the Falcons and Watson if they’re smart and looking long-term.
