Some of you need to get off your soap box and stop acting like little 15 year old spoiled girls. Do you honestly think Michael Thomas put off that surgery with the thought that “oh yeah I’m going to wait to have surgery and not be ready for the regular season, that’s really going to show them.”
No, he felt rehab could fix the issue and surgery would be a last ditch effort, you know…something that’s just told by every surgeon across America for as long as time.
In hindsight he was wrong, and it’s frustrating, but he didn’t have some master plan to tank his value as a player and the organizations season. Hell, the guy put off surgery to play in the playoffs the year of the surgery.
To think this was all some play by Thomas because he’s unhappy is just an extremely idiotic take.

Peat and Trautman for Tyler Boyd and Drew Sample straight up.
Trade 2 firsts and a third for Wilson or maybe even Carr.
There’s a path if the Saints are willing to be aggressive.
Maybe I’m naive but we really are a QB, WR2, and a TE with a pulse away from a deep run, with or without SP.
ETA: and I think we should absolutely trade SP. I’d rather get something for his rights that get nothing while he goes to another team anyway as soon as his deal is up.

I disagree with much of the "Payton doesn't want to face/try to fix 'doomsday' " angle...
These factors you listed are all potentially legit and difficult, but I don't think Payton had the success he has had without being that arrogant, petty Alpha we always saw.
I think this has more to do with "it's time" as he said... what are those factors? I don't think they are "football challenges"... I think they're personal. Perhaps at home, wants to spend more time with new wife, wants to be free to go and see and do more with his kids, I think a very real element is he absolutely found out how much he was energized and excited to coach Drew, and how much he missed it this past year.
He said it yesterday, last year was a tough year for many reasons, but it's been something on his mind for more than just the last few months. He "stepped down" from the competition committee this past spring and said "it was time" and that he'd "leave it at that" to avoid a fine.
I THINK what soured him most was fighting Goodell. We all know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the two men despise each other, and that Goodell abused his power to make life miserable for Sean. I have a healthy hatred for that ginger prick. He submarined some of the prime years of Brees' career, ran our Team's name through the mud with BountyFARCE, directed refs to be tough on us (we all know the INSANE stats, but the NOLA No-Call robbing us of a Super Bowl berth will FOREVER be INFURIATING), and now has run off the best coach in Saints history -- and arguably one of the top-25 NFL coaches ever.
Sean was tired -- for many reasons. I for one am hoping just a bit harder for GoToHell to have that massive widow-maker or fall or car accident or homicidal Giants fan to put him in an early grave!
I honestly would almost EXPECT Payton to make a return to the Saints if that were to happen. Even as soon as next week, if GoToHell were to pass (prayers up!).
