The structure of the Saints Org is dysfunctional, IMHO.

Loomis and Lauscha are very talented on the business /financial sides of the franchise. Neither are a true "Football GM". Jeff Ireland must fill that role.

IMHO a crucial move for the off-season should be to promote Jeff Ireland to GM and give him the kind of full authority that a powerful NLF GM possesses.

The current structure of the org is dysfunctional. There are TWO finance guys at the top, and the only "football guy" is an Assistant GM. You shouldn't have a finance guy at the top, much less TWO finance guys.

Promote Jeff Ireland to full GM, or lose him to another franchise who WILL make him full GM. If the Saints, lose Jeff Ireland, the bottom of the abyss into which the Saints will fall will be too far to see.

Jeff Ireland should be the GM. Give Mickey some Dennis type role in the org.

This wont happen though. Ireland will go to wherever Sean ends up.

I think Sean steals Khai Harley instead.

Loomis and Lauscha should place themselves below the Ireland-Harley partnership, when it comes to re-building this roster and coaching staff.

Saints should consider hiring a "Coaching Search" consulting firm right now. Hire a firm that can research the issue with secrecy and discretion.

Saints org needs to take positive steps NOW to save this franchise from the bottomless abyss that it now finds itself standing on the brink.

Either that, or the whole thing might collapse into nothingness and the team is sold to a new ownership group that has already firmed up plans to build a new stadium in a new city.

IMHO, the latter is more likely than the former.

I think Sean will want a similar structure to a certain degree that he had with the Saints. He will bring in talent eval guys, but he will want a cap wizard as well and Harley is that guy.

Plus early on that will be more important to a certain degree considering the picks they will need to give up to get him.

It also provides us with a 3rd round pick at no cost to them which would be nice I guess.

Harley is useless without an owner willing to enable him. The Cardinals and Chargers both have shite owners.

Not worried about losing him

I agree with you, it’s the smart move to promote Ireland and let him have more say in running the show.

While that’s true, I also see how greed and power always weigh out for people. So it’s unlikely we go the correct route. More likely we lose Ireland, as soon as this offseason. What a joy

Mickey Loomis has been a GM for 20 years and people still say he's not a GM. It's weird.

Loomis is not a "football guy". He's a bean counter. We've emphasized this fact many times over the last 15 years around here.

Neither Loomis nor Lauscha are football guys. They are bean counters i.e. accountants and finance guys.

No, those are statements uttered around here. Loomis had incredible drafts long before Ireland was here. Mickey has strengths and weaknesses, he's had ups and he's had downs.

I have researched Loomis's time with the Saints and Seahawks and the information on-line indicates that he is an accounting and finance guy who helps with salary cap issues when signing players. I can find no information whatsoever that Mickey Loomis has made his bones as an expert football player personnel acquisition analyst. That's why people say that he's a "bean counter."

When Sean Payton was with the Saints Sean Payton picked the players.

Part of the issue is Gayle is using Lauscha to topside manage a number of other Benson assets, and using Loomis to a lesser extent.

Lauscha needs to officially become what he actually is… President of Benson Family Office.

Make Loomis President of the Saints with focus only on the Saints.

Make Ireland the GM.

I have always wanted Loomis to stay at GM... But if it means loosing Ireland then I am all for Ireland to become the GM.. I am a huge Ireland fan.. What he has done for the Saints in the draft selection has been nothing short of a miracle..

It has been referenced a few times over the years that Payton had about as much control that a coach can have outside of Belichick. The reason they went 7-9 three years in a row was because Payton started signing free agents like he was playing fantasy football and they were poor fits. It’s no coincidence the drafts and personnel moves got better around 2017 once Ireland came aboard to essentially save Payton from himself.
