The Saints should take a page from the Pels on how to rebound from a disastrous offseason

The Pelicans had as disastrous an offseason as a franchise can have just a few years ago. They hired a terrible, retread coach that the players absolutely despised, made horrid trades and acquired players that were total busts or didn’t want to play. Among many other things.
But they immediately turned it around. They didn’t buy into sunk cost and fired their bum coach and made an actual inspired hire on a young up and coming coach that had never been a HC. They had possibly the best draft in their history, made smart trades and acquisitions. They followed it up with another good draft and offseason and are a solid, good young team with a high ceiling.
I know this is going to get about 20 herrrrderrrr I hate basketball responses but this isn’t about basketball.
The Bensons other team was in a similar spot. And it calls for a similar response.
Your coach isn’t a good one. Fire him. Make a bold and inspired hire, on the Offensive side of the ball. Draft solidly and do everything you can to find your QB.
Don’t buy into sunk cost. Move on. Be bold.

They have to.
And don’t interview 4 non offensive coaches again. They weren’t even close

Eric Bienemy must be the worst interviewer of all time, or his skeletons scare teams that much.
Dennis Allen is just a total dud. They just cannot run this back.

I wonder what are the chances Dennis actually says to himself "do I want to keep doing this" and steps down.
I was never one to want to keep dennis if they just demoted him.
But imagine a scenario where Payton talks to dennis. DA could save face by reverting back and Payton takes over. Not completely baseless given the rumors out there.
I dont think it happens. But regardless, maybe he just quits.

If this was Allen’s first crack at HC, I’d say he gets another year. But his history coupled with the poor performance and the fact that the team didn’t improve at all, means he has to go.

The literal reason for hiring him was continuity and to keep this thing rolling.
It rolled off a cliff instead. There’s no reason to keep him.

Pels weren't in cap hell against a hard cap. They might hit cap hell in the next few years but there is not a product on the court that is worth the tax. Problem in the NFL is you don't get taxed if you are over the cap, they start taking draft picks which just makes things worst. I think the Saints need to take their medicine and let some of these big cap hits come and get off the books before things will get better.

I hear you but the Pels may as well have been in cap hell because no one wanted to sign with them (and thank god they didn’t).

Pels also had the advantage of having a very valuable asset they were able to flip for a massive bounty that positioned the franchise to succeed long term
The Saints have Payton, but it won’t be THAT imoactful

Saints don’t have a Zion trying to get healthy….
They got a Loomis that screws up drafts…

Our drafts of late are why we have a pulse.

You can kiss Ireland goodbye. It will be our biggest loss.

And what’s our situation at QB?

Considering they did something stupid like hire him in the first place, they’re gonna do something stupid like give him a second year.

The pels greatest feat is being in first place through mid season.
Don’t take a page from that god awfully poorly run team.

While i and most agree, allen will be back.
They are going to waste another yr.
The only way i can see it working with allen is if he hits a home run on the oc hire.
Hopefully he lucks into someone like doug pederson that will completely take over the offense and make it their own.
I can't believe we aregoing to be stuck with allen for another yr.

It might be simply because he's not really developed anyone worth a shite and instead had Jamaal Charles, Adrian Peterson, and Patrick Mahomes handed to him. Coaches should never get credit for generational talent being great. That's how Adam Gase and Nathaniel Hackett got hired and it was obviously the wrong move.
